The Love of My Life?

I sat at the counter while Alya, my supposed best friend, made me a sandwich. I told her I could do it myself, but she was stubborn to help me. What if you forgot how to use a knife? I don't want you to get hurt, Mari. Alya reasoned. I didn't want to argue with her. I already felt bad enough that I didn't know who she was.
Alya set down the sandwich in front of me. "Thanks," I said.
Alya smiled, "No problem. Are you ready for more information yet?"
"Yes. I think I am," I started. "First off, what kind of rule? Like, is telling me what happened against the law?"
"No! It's just... Well, you are, er, were part of this... secret organization. But, you gave it all up. So your memory was erased to keep the... organization safe."
"Okay... How do you know about all this? And who- that Adrien guy, how is he involved?"
Alya winced, "We are kind of part of the organization too."
"So if you..." My eyes widened. "Left this organization, you'd loose your memory too?"
"Er... No. See, Mari, you were, like, the boss of this organization. With you leaving, we... Lost our jobs too. But we can keep our memories."
I could see the hurt in her eyes. I didn't want to pry, but... "Who exactly are 'we'? You, Adrien, and? Is that it?"
Alya seemed like she was about to answer when we heard the door close.
"Marinette?" A worried man appeared in the doorway, his hand in his shaggy blonde hair. His green eyes met mine.
"Mari!" he shouted with relief. He hugged me, like he regretted ever letting me go.
When he finally did let go, his beautiful eyes were full of tears. "I'm so sorry M'lady! I never should've fought with you! Purrincess, I'm sorry! I never will again."
"Adrien-" Alya started, before being interrupted.
"Mari, you don't know how scared I was! Alya called me, saying that you were passed out and that your earrings were gone. I thought Lila might've... It doesn't matter! You're okay! Where are your earrings, by the way? You never take them off, Bug."
"My... Earrings?" I replied. I felt my ears. I wasn't wearing any earrings.
Alya sighed. "Adrien, they're gone."
"What? What do you mean they're gone?" Adrien exclaimed.
"Oh!" I said. "So you're Adrien. Alya made you sound like a troublemaker but-"
"No... No, no, no! Alya don't tell me she... No..."
I stood there awkwardly as Alya confirmed what sounded like Adrien's worst fear. "I know, you don't want to hear it. Mari gave up the box. All the... You know, are gone. Your ring is the only one left."
Adrien looked at me, heartbreak showing on his face.
Alya took it upon herself to introduce me. "Mari, this is Adrien, your fiancé."
Adrien started walking around, hands in his hair, muttering, "No, no, no..."
"Oh... Oh my god! Oh Adrien, I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed.
Adrien perked up, "Do you remember me?"
"Er... No, but- Oh my god! What was Marinette thinking? I feel so bad for you, both of you."
Adrien gave me a small smile, before turning to Alya. "We have to tell the whole team."
"You're right. We should call them all here," Alya said.
Adrien pulled out his phone and started talking to someone.
I was so confused. Team? Wouldn't they already know if they lost their jobs? And this poor guy was supposed to be my fiancé. He was calling me all these nicknames. (M'lady? Purrincess? Bug? What the heck?) Adrien clearly loved Marinette, but Marinette was gone. I was supposed to be all these names they were calling me, but how could I be Adrien's lady if I couldn't even remember who Marinette was? How could I share Adrien's love if I didn't know him?
"Alya, what was our relationship like?" I asked, still very confused.
Alya glanced at me, "Me and you, or you and Adrien?"
After a moment of thought, I said, "Both."
"Well, a year after we met, you told me your biggest secret. A secret you weren't supposed to tell anyone," Alya explained. "That's when I really knew you were my best friend. You trusted me to not tell a soul who you really were. I was the first person you ever told. You didn't even tell Adrien, the love of your life. He just figured it out."
I knew my biggest concern should be on what this secret was, but my mind wandered. "The love of my life?"
Alya smiled sadly, "Mhm. Adrien Agreste, Paris's sweetheart. Of the thousands of girls obsessing over him, one girl was lucky enough to be his lovebug. That's you, girl!"
Lovebug? What was with all these bug related nicknames?
Alya muttered, "Though, I can't be surprised. You were destined to be the luckiest girl in Paris when you put on those earrings."
And earrings? Both of them had mentioned earrings. Were they a gift from Adrien? I felt my ears again. I still had no earrings.
"You two were made for each other." Alya stopped, her eyes widening. Then she looked at me, fear looking like it would overwhelm her. "No... Mari, please don't tell me."
"Tell you... What?" I asked.
"Adrien... Don't tell me you don't love him anymore."
Before I could answer, we both heard something clatter to the floor. Alya winced and turned her head in the direction of the noise. I followed her gaze.
Standing there, face full of shock and sorrow, was Adrien Agreste. The noise? He must have dropped his phone after overhearing Alya's suggestion.
For a moment, we all stood there. He was looking at me and I was looking right back. A barely audible whisper escaped from his mouth. "What?"
I couldn't keep his gaze. I looked down, away. It was too painful to see that this guy, Adrien, was so distraught over my actions. My feelings. His sadness felt like my fault, my problem. But I didn't know him. I didn't know anyone in this room. I didn't even know what they were talking about.
Adrien slowly approached me. For a second, he just stared. As soon as I met his eyes, he pursed his lips as if to hold back tears. Then he hugged me. And he cried.
I couldn't deny it. I felt uncomfortable. Not because of the hug. The hug was nice. I felt awkward having him cry into my shoulder. I wanted to help him, but I didn't know how.
So I hugged back.
In between sobs, he muttered. "M'lady, why do you have to always be so stubborn? I love you. I love you so much. Please remember me."
I stayed quiet. Anything I could've said then would have been a lie or would make him cry more.
After a couple of minutes, he pulled away. He was back to staring. Tears had fallen down my cheeks now as well. Suddenly, a sad smile formed on Adrien's face. "You're so beautiful," he said softly.
He moved one of his hands to my cheek to wipe away my tears. Adrien blinked back his own before leaning closer. Our lips were about to touch when he pulled back. He closed his eyes and sighed. "I really want to kiss you."
I felt my heart breaking. The guy in front of me was in love. Anyone could see it. And because of the same person, me, he was in pain. I had to do something. Adrien deserved an apology.
So I kissed him.
Time slowed down. My heart rate quickened.
What was I doing? I wasn't in love. But as Adrien kissed me back, I couldn't help but forget any doubts I had. All that mattered was this moment. My mind had forgotten, but my heart hadn't. I felt love for Adrien. Just enough to know that he wasn't lying. That Alya wasn't lying. If I could only get to know him, it would be very possible for him to be the love of my life.
It ended all too soon. Both of us pulled away from this kiss. Adrien was staring at me. "Mari-" he started.
"Adrien, I think I did love you. And I think I still do, deep down. But I don't know who you are. I don't know who I am. For now, you need to be patient with me. If you wait... if you introduce me to Adrien Agreste all over again, then maybe I can learn to love you, like I used to."
Adrien started to tear up. "Of course I'll wait for you Princess. It's us against the world. It always has been. I will not leave you."
"I'm glad," I smiled, before hugging him again. He hugged me right back, burying his head in my shoulder.
"Um... Are we interrupting something?" a familiar voice called out.
