Chapter 4

"Sweetheart, it's only for a few hours. We'll be back at around nine or ten, depending on the traffic," my Aunt April said, checking her watch. "Please, I promise it won't be a regular thing."

It's been a couple days since Mason almost made me cry, and I knew something like that would happen, just never that it'd come so soon. At this minute my Aunt April and Uncle James had to go to the hospital to visit her sister, who got into a car accident.

Since the babysitter they usually have isn't available, I was their last chance to take care of their 2-year-old daughter, Valerie. At first I denied it, but Aunt April begged me to take care of her, so I gave in.

"Alright," I said, picking up Valerie in her baby carrier.

It's not that I hate Valerie, even if this is my third time meeting her in person, it's that I haven't been in charge of taking care of someone, minus my time with Christy. Valerie is younger and my cousin, and I want to influence her in a good way.

may not make it." With that, he stepped back before Aunt

April turned around to slap his arm

, she's not your baby." He gave me a wink. I love Uncle James, almost as I love my dad. It's typical for him to joke at a worst possible moment, trying to make a point or lighten up the mood. He and my aunt are total opposites. My aunt is serious, clean, and a

bit more mature.

Him, not so much, but they love the difference between them, because it makes their relationship more exciting.

To me, when I once asked them why they love each other, they said '

O

pposites attract. Not every relationship has to be the perfect one. Unless two people love each other, there is always a way they can cooperate for a love that will make the world give a double take.' My first reaction to th

at was sticking out my tongue and pointing my finger at it, but I was five, and thought love was about two people holding hands. Now, I guess, I understand what it means.

Aunt April nodded, walking to him. "Okay, alright."

Uncle James opened the door, letting the orange sun spill into the foyer
