Hours have passed and you aren't sure how long you have been avoiding people. The family rule still stands when it comes to making conversation with strangers. Maybe it has been stretched slightly, so you can very much talk to them. You just can't approach them with too much enthusiasm and talk for more than 10 minutes.

Charity events usually have a dinner and then late-night activities that have no other intention than to make people drop more money, now that they're already a few glasses of alcohol deep.

You didn't hate the people you were sitting with at dinner. They were nice and quite entertaining to listen to. They didn't bother you with too many questions, you assume, because they know how it feels to be bombarded with questions related to work when you're very much away from the office.

After dinner, which already took long enough (blame on it 6 courses long), everybody got up from their table and went on to talk to their business partners. Many of yours aren't even in for the night and had just left a donation on the side - as well as an extra for the apologies due to them not being able to come - but it's not like you couldn't sit by yourself for some time.

Some people came to talk to you when you got yourself a drink. You were nice to them as you all talked about work and other random things that would just come up in conversation. You gently sipped your drink here and there, hoping it would give you some more strength. You really just want to stay until a reasonable time of the night.

It's not that it's bad to be here. You simply would prefer to give them the donation and the bonus and stay home, giving yourself an off day after God knows how long without one.

It didn't help that you felt like you were being watched the whole time. It's not a scary fact that in these events people try to get some business moves done. Your dad has admitted that some of his best business partners have been the ones to approach him during these nights - therefore, another reason why you're here. But it still makes you feel uneasy.

You don't know whose eyes are on you. You're in a room filled with people, and even with as much security as these other people have, you still don't find yourself safe.

An hour ago, you moved over to the corner of the room. Usually, people do this in these events to not be approached and be away from most of the noise.

You've done it before, you just don't do it as much since your mother isn't quite a fan of that. 'You should be making yourself known' she would say. Good thing everyone already knows you.

You click your acrylic nail on the thin glass of the alcoholic beverage in front of you. Your heels are starting to become uncomfortable since you've been standing by a tall table from the bar with no chairs, this whole time. But, for all that people know, you've never been as comfortable as you are right now.

You offer a toothless grin to everyone that passes by you on their way to the bar and happen to greet you enthusiastically. You grab onto your drink again, sipping it. Can the time go by any slower?

"A little bit of a strong drink for such a family-friendly event, don't you think?" A male voice is heard from beside you.

You look over to find some man. You're not sure you've ever seen him before, you're not great with faces.

You offer him a fake smile and give him a shrug.

"One drink never hurts anyone." You tell him.

"I hope you're not driving yourself home." He jokes right as he hears what you just said.

You pull at your lips to seem amused at what he said and your eyes continue to scan the man's face. You feel like you've seen him before, but where?

"I'm not." You tell him, still with a smile.
