The light switch clicks underneath your fingers as you turn off the lights. Your heels echo through the large and empty floor of your company, step after step, as you face the hallways and walk through them. The automatic lights illuminate your way throughout.

Once again, the last one to leave work is you. Work has been tougher than ever. Business is going great but that is nothing but a result of the extra hours everyone has been trying to pull. Especially you.

You're tired of the late meetings and tired of more and more piles of printed documents people have started to send you through actual mail. They have been doing it since you, and your assistant, haven't gotten through all of the last emails yet.

The sun completely set over Gotham a few hours ago, and only now did you feel the need to leave your chair.

You'll have to come back in the morning, either way, might as well get some more sleep in you while you can.

But, good things seem to be dropping by your feet on days like these as you were supposed to be at an event right now. Yet, since work has been so hectic, your parents took the invite from your list of responsibilities and went in your name.

You walk into the elevator and face the hallway, watching the darkness consume it as the lights don't find movement after you've passed them. The doors close and you let out a sigh of relief. Your body feels tired but your brain still feels like going a mile a second.

You walk out of the metal box and you see no one. No one is at work. No one at the front desk or even security. The night shift security must be coming in an hour but no one will be at the desk until the next morning.

Your heels sound through the empty room once more and you get to the glass front door of the company.

You make sure to recheck your bag to see if you have everything with you.

The doors have been made with extra care when your dad was still the boss. The doors only unlock from the inside after closing hours if you have your company card. So, if you are to forget something - like your car keys - you better get cozy with the front steps.

You open the door after the beeping - of the machine accepting your card - fills your ears. You walk out, pulling the door closed with you and you pull your phone out of your bag. You check the time, and it's almost midnight.

Your parents must be on their way home by now.

You tap the contact of your driver and the many rings that follow can only mean one thing, he is not available. You switch over to your mother's contact and stay by the glass doors, eyeing the empty streets.

"Hi, sweetheart." Her voice gets to your ear.

"Hello. Had fun tonight?" You ask first, ignoring how her good mood must have been from the champagne she always has trouble staying away from.

"A lot of fun!" She says happily, "But why are you calling at this time? You should be asleep already."

"Because I assume you must be in my driver's car." You tell her, restraining your annoyed tone after such a long day.

"Oh yes! I'm in his car right now!" She squeaks in excitement, "Would you like to say 'hi' to him, dear?"

"No, mother, it's alright." You say, "Could you just tell him to come to pick me up as soon as he drops you off?"

She repeats your words in a tone of authority to the man with her loud voice. One she tends to use with any of the people that work for the family. She, thankfully, did move the phone away when she spoke, as you believe she would've burst your eardrum if she didn't.
