Lightningflash's Prophecy

Chapter 5

There were gasps of disbelief. " No! " Lightningpaw yowled. " That can't be true! " Dawnflower was sobbing, holding her other two kits closer. Brightstar lowered his head. " I'm sorry, " The leader meowed in a sad tone. " The medicine cats tried they're best, but it was too late. Leaf-bare was just too harsh. " Oceankit wailed loudly, and snuggled into her mothers fur.
" It's all my fault! " Thornkit mewed worriedly. " I killed my own brother! "
" It wasn't your fault. " Brightstar assured. " It was a pure accident, you did nothing to cause this. "
" I did! I pulled him in the pond! I'm a terrible brother! " The tom ran out of camp, towards the icy forest.
" Thornkit, no! " His mother yowled, racing to the camp entrance with Oceankit. " StarClan! Don't let me loose another one! "
" I don't belong here! " He hissed. Dawnflower stopped. She didn't move. She just stood there, frozen, not sure what to do. Oceankit pulled at her paws. " Come on! " We have to catch him! " Other warriors went after him, but the young cat ran faster. Finally, Lightningflash races after him. She zoomed by the warriors, passing Oceankit on the way. But the tom ran faster, and the other cats slowed down with fatigue. " Thornkit! " The apprentice yowled. " Stop! Please! " They got closer to the camp entrence, and a hunting patrol came in.
" Stop that kit! " Brightstar yowled. The patrol was shocked, seeing Thornkit hurtling towards them. They made a barrier so he couldn't get out. " Move! " He growled angrily. " I killed my own brother! I don't belong here! " Lightningpaw pounced him, and tumbled over and over again.
" Came down! " She hissed as he wriggled beneath her. " It wasn't your fault! You didn't kill anyone! " He slowly calmed down and just lay still, pinned down by the apprentices paws. " But he's gone. " The tom whispered.
" He's not coming back. " His eyes welled with sadness. Lightningpaw got off him, and looked at an early, small, bright star. " Look! " She yowled happily. Thornkit looked up, and di the hunting patrol. " It's Glowkit! See! " The star twinkled at them.
" It is! " Thornkit jumped to his paws and smiled at his brother. " Hi Glowkit! I'm sorry I pulled you into the pond and you froze. " He mewed guiltily. A larger star appeared next to him, more faded, but still a bright star.
" Swiftwind! " She meowed. Her siblings looked up with excitedly. Brightstorm sat silently watching, and smiled. Everything's fine, the apprentice thought. Everything will be alright now. Right? Something made her feel uneasy. Like someone watching them...
