The fox envoy sat beside Ei, watching the fireworks being set off from afar. The Naganohara family's fireworks never fail to bring a smile to Ei's face.
Ei began to leave the Plane of Euthymia more often, to see how the city was doing, and to spend time with Yae.
Ei and Yae used to be lovers, intimate lovers. But ever since she had to take the role of The Electro Archon, she had to end the relationship.
The poor kitsune took this as a sign that she was beginning to fall in love with her again. To start a new chapter in their relationship.
But she was wrong.
So, so wrong.
"I'm sorry Yae, I can't afford to long for your touch."
That felt like a sword through her heart. The choking sensation grew tighter, and her eyes began to water.
But she had to hide it. She didn't want to make Ei feel bad. Because no matter how hard that rejection hit,
She still loved her.
And forever will.
The both of them sat in silence, only the loud crackling of the fireworks lingered in their ears.
Yae is awkwardly sneaking glances at Ei, noticing the blank expression on her face.
Does she… does she not care at all? She seems as if she’s avoiding the situation, avoiding her.
Yae sighed, finally accepting reality.
She never meant anything at all in Ei's pursuit of Eternity.

The fireworks show comes to an end, and Ei silently gets up. Thoughts race through Yae's mind, wanting to get one of them out of her mouth.
She wanted to chase after her, despite not knowing what to say. She just wanted to be there with Ei a little longer. She doesn’t care if she doesn’t feel the same way.
But she couldn't.
So she just watches as her purple braid sways in the wind, leaving her all alone,
Just like all those years ago.
