Two years. Two years I've been here. Two years since I saw my friends. I don't even know if they're ok... or even alive. I've just been trapped in this dungeon, no light, no friends, no emotions, just me and my captors. Nightmare talks to me every day, he brings me lunch every day without fail. He talks to me, eats with me, makes me feel... good. I haven't felt good-felt real joy-since my vials were taken away from me.
I was told that I would get them back if I was 'good'. I haven't really been submitting to them. I've been holding out, trying to stay strong for when Dream and Blue save me. I'm not going to listen to my enemies telling me what to do. It's ludicrous.
I sat back against a wall. I was struggling against the thick shackles on my arms, legs, and neck. The chains connecting them to the wall made loud noises, but they still wouldn't budge. They haven't budged after two years.
I heard the familiar click of the cell door opening. It must be lunch time. I moved my arms away from my shackles, laying them limp on the ground. I watched Nightmare opened the door, walked though, then closed it again. He walked over to me and gently placed a food tray in front of me and sat down in front of me. He used a string on the roof to turn the light on, making me wince.
"Hmm. When was the last time you turned this light on Ink?" He asked me. I looked down at the food and simply replied.
"I... I dunno I guess..." I whispered.
"Ah. I guess it has been a while then. You probably have not turned them on since I left yesterday." Nightmare said, he gave me a pity-filled smile.
I made no effort to move towards the food, I'd gone on a hunger strike. I made a promise to myself that I wasn't going to eat until I got to see outside. To see the sky. To feel the morning breeze. To touch the dew on the grass. I was going to see and feel these things. Or. I was going to die. Nightmare saw my refusal of the food and decided to speak up about it.
"Killer said you did not eat breakfast this morning. Horror spent time on that meal and he did not seem too pleased with your wastefulness."
"I don't care."
"You do not care about Horrors feelings?"
"I have no feeling of my own. Why would I care about his?"
"Hmmmm. That is no good. So, why would you want to skip meals?"
"I.. want..."
"You want? This is already turning into a dangerous situation. Wanting can be bad for some."
"I want to see outside."
"See, wanting is bad for some."
"I'm not eating until I go outside."
"Hmmmm. What an ultimatum. Well. You have not been particularly good, but you have not been bad either. Maybe... I will think about it, is that good enough to get you to eat?"
"I'm not eating. Until. I go. OUTSIDE." I repeated. Nightmare put his hands up defensively.
"Hey, calm down Ink. I will let you go outside." He giggled. He giggled. It was something unexpected. It made me feel something. His giggle. I wanted to make him do it again. He sounded so cute. I've seen him be scary, calm, peaceful, and nice, but never cute. I liked it. I liked thinking he was cute. I liked seeing how cute be was.
"Ink? Are you ok? I said I would let you go outside, did that break you or something?"
"Oh, uh... wait- really? You will!?" I sat up on my knees in some sort of excitement.
"Yes of course. I have finished the rest of my paperwork, so I have today off. Though it is raining and not a very nice day to go out. Plus as you said, you can not feel emotions, so I am not sure how you'd react to it."
"But I can still go?"
"Yes. But only if you eat the food in front of you."
"Ummm... o-ok..." I whimpered, grabbing my fork and knife weakly. I hesitantly started to eat my food. Nightmare smiled, content with my reaction. I ate and finished my food, I was really hungry from missing breakfast. Nightmare chuckled and I looked up at him.
"Hungry?" He asked.
"Not anymore... but yeah..." I said, dropping my cutlery on the tray and sliding it over to Nightmare. He smiled before shifting over to me. This was the closest he'd ever gotten to me. He pulled a small key out of his pocket and unlocked my shackles. He then dropped the key back in his pocket and pulled something out instead.
I looked down at his hand, trying to make out what was in it. A collar. With a leash attached to it. It was for me I'm guessing. He brought his hands to around my neck and tried to put the collar on. He didn't have enough space from my hunched over position. I looked up, giving him more space to do as he pleased. He smiled and clicked the collar around my neck, tightening it around me.
"C'mon Ink, stand up." Nightmare smiled, tugging on the leashed attached to the collar. I stood and walked to the door with him. I was going outside. This proved it. I swore I could feel a twinge of excitement, but it was quickly gone. He unlocked the door and led me out of it, not bothering to relock it afterwards.
He led me through the hallways of the vaguely familiar castle, earning strange looks from everyone who walked by. I didn't mind, I didn't have the emotions to mind. We stopped, and I looked in front of Nightmare, instead of around the large castle's hallways.
"Boss? What are you doing with Ink? Why is he out here? And why is he... on a... on a leash?" I heard the familiar voice of Cross.
"He stopped eating until he saw the outside, so I'm taking him to the courtyard. Probably for an hour or two, he'll be back in the cell by the end of today. Oh, and he's on a leash to make sure he doesn't try to escape." Nightmare said, with a lot less emotion in his voice. He sounded kinda dead.
"That's why you didn't eat my food." Horror crossed his arms, pouring slightly. He seemed sad, maybe even offended.
"Sorry I guess... your food tastes better then Blue's tacos at least." I said, trying to lighten the mood in my own emotionless way.
"God. Seeing you so dead inside is kinda sad. You should give him his vials Boss. It's kinda creepy." Killer spoke, poking my cheek slightly.
"Please stop it." I said, kind of being annoyed by the poking. Killer decided to ignore my slight pleas. He continued to poke at me annoyingly.
"Leave him alone Killer. And yes, he was being good so I was going to get him his paints. At the moment, you are the one intervening in this process. So leave. Now." Nightmare ordered. Killer stopped poking me and walked off with the other members of the gang.
"You were going to give me my vials?" I asked, I didn't understand what I had done to do 'deserve' them. "What did I even do to get you to give them to me?"
"When I was putting the collar on you, you let me, shit, you even helped me by tilting your head back. As far as I am aware, you deserve a small dosage of your vials."
"Thank you. Thank you for this Nightmare. I honestly really needed it."
"It has been two years. Maybe you are learning a little late. But you're still learning nonetheless. You deserve a reward or two. Plus, we can not have you starving yourself to death."
"Thank you anyways..."
"Of course."
Nightmare continued to drag me down the twisting hallways of the mansion, though I could now feel the Bad Sanses following us. They pretended to walk away, but they were still following us, trying to keep their Boss safe. He led me through a large double door, and what I saw...
