You grabbed Fundy's hand, pain flaring from your ribcage as his weight wrenched you halfway over the railing.

The night air was still.

Fundy dangled precariously, his yellow eyes darting around. You arm felt as if it'd been snapped out of its socket.

With a difficulty, you leaned backwards, dragging Fundy up and over the railing. You collapsed onto the floor, Fundy's knees buckling under him as he fell too. Leaning back against the railing, you took a huge breath, sucking in lungfuls of cool night air, your heart racing.

Fundy was silent, but you could see him shivering.

"Are you okay?" you asked, finally looking at him.

He shook his head mutely.

Sometimes, life had a funny way of getting a lot more complicated.

You sat up, glancing at Fundy. "What was that?" you asked tentatively.

"Sleepwalking," Fundy said distantly, as if his mind was miles away, "I think. I was dreaming."

You thought for a moment. Fundy lived in the hotel, like you, on one of the higher floors. He'd have to have been one hell of a sleepwalker to get down the elevator, across to the needle, and back up. "What were you dreaming about?" you asked.

Fundy shifted, his glowing yellow eyes avoiding your gaze. You were suddenly reminded of just how young he was--foxes aged quicker, but he'd only seen a little of the world. Much less than he could've, but much more than he should've.

"Let's get a drink," you said finally, stretching out a hand.

Wordlessly, Fundy took it, following you into the interior of the needle. The chairs and tables were all empty, and it looked even more barren when you turned on the light. Fundy sat at a table, fiddling with his coat, as you stepped behind the bar, looking for ingredients. You quickly heated some milk, and dropped some chocolate powder into it.

Returning to the table with two mugs of hot chocolate, you sat down, sipping yours slowly. Fundy simply kept his hands on the sides of his slightly warm mug, as if he could anchor himself to the world just through that. "What were you dreaming about?" you asked again, setting down your cup.

" ... my fiancé."

You stopped, surprised. You glanced down at Fundy's hand. No ring. Quackity had used to have two rings, but once he stopped working in administration, and founded Las Nevadas, they disappeared. It was too bruised, too sore of a point to press, so you'd kept silent. But you knew--or you thought you knew at least, why Quackity never liked Kinoko Kingdom too much.

"You were going to get married?" you asked, and then immediately bit your lip.

Someday, your impulsive mouth would get you killed.

Fundy shrugged, finally drinking from his mug. "I was. And then I didn't. Turns out they cheated."

It still didn't explain why he'd been sleepwalking though. You considered it for a moment, and then your curiosity won out. "Who was your fiancé?"

Fundy's tail twitched, betraying his cold mask of a face only slightly.

"Dream."
