1 YEAR LATER

Wanna hear something crazy?
It's been a year since Bruno proposed.
Wanna hear something crazier?
Tomorrow's the wedding day.
It's been a blur, really. The moment you woke up the next morning as Bruno's fiancée (you still have tingles every time you hear that word), you were whisked away by your madrina who was more than happy to plan the wedding for you.
When you first heard the word wedding , you nearly choked. Your father did too.
"We're going to have to go to the church and reserve a wedding date, then go to the seamstress to get your wedding gown fitted, then go to the town baker to have your cake prepared—of course—Julieta will be in charge of the catering. Then after that, we need to pick colors and make invitations, then commission the town band to play the music after the ceremony. We need to fit mi Brunito with his attire as well, and after that we—"
"Madrina! The wedding is a year from now. Why don't we just slow down for a bit, si? " Your godmother gave a stern look. She changed her hairstyle today, opting for a bun than her usual twin braids. It gave her more of a stricter appearance, and you slightly shook under the scrutiny of her stare.
"Mija, this is the first wedding of the Madrigals. It must go perfectly. We cannot have any problems, thus, we have to prepare as soon as we can."
"But madrina— " she cut you off with a firm raise of her hand.
"As I said, everything must go perfectly. We're already behind schedule, so come, come. We have to go to Señora Zamora for measurements," she grabbed you by the shoulders and pushed you in the direction of the seamstress' shop. You felt her fixing your hair from behind and dusting some dirt on your skirt, "...and we'll have to get you more clothes that would be fit for a Madrigal. No lady should wear such dirty skirts and faded blouses, mi ahijada perfecta. "
Your shoulders shrunk as you realized she was right. You never really did act much like a lady. If you were going to be Bruno's wife and join the Madrigal ranks, you have to at least look the part.
"... si, madrina. I understand."
Another surprise came after three months of planning; Pepa and Felix were finally engaged! It was such welcome news, and Alma had planned for their wedding as well. It was decided that they will be wed six months after yours; just enough time for things to settle down and prepare for another grand Madrigal wedding. Though it didn't compare to the pressure that you and Bruno were having for being the first couple to be wed.
Speaking of Bruno, during the whole year of planning, he had become more open with his affections. And when you say open, you meant it. You have kissed more times than you can count, sometimes sneaking off from your madrina's watchful eyes and into abandoned alleyways or into the pastures to love each other to your hearts' content—without the watchful eyes of the town or your families. A blush would always make its way to your cheeks whenever he had to stop himself from going too far, his cheeks equally as flushed as yours.
"Amor, it's so hard to control myself when I'm around you," He told you one afternoon. There were four months left before the wedding, and the both of you sneaked off to unwind from the stress. His mama had become more and more assertive with her ideals for the wedding, and neither you nor Bruno had enough guts to make her slow down, "...I prayed day and night, confessed my sins to the Lord, but you make me want you more and more. You tempt me so, cariño."
