It's my first day of working at the main Mall in Richmond Virginia. After I received back my lab results was negative I was hired as a cashier for Hot Topic at the the mall. My girlfriend Mikalae is the manager at Hot Topic and helped me get the job. I arrive about 20 minutes til 10 so I can get everything in order and spend a few minutes with her before the mall opens at 10:30 a.m. I park my light blue Chevrolet Camaro in the back parking lot. I get out looking around and thought I heard something but must be my imagination.
I swipe my badge into the door and walk in. "Hey babe. You're finally here."Mikalae smiles hugging and kissing my cheek. Mikalae is 24. She is five foot 6 with medium blonde hair and blue eyes. She has a slim petite body. I stand at five foot eight. Brown hair, brown eyes and small goatee and mustache with an average built body. "Hey baby thanks again for getting me the job. Moving back here from North Carolina has been a struggle." I say kissing her back.
We walk around the mall for a little bit talking and getting to know the mall a little better. We arrive at Hot Topic and we clock in going our separate ways for now. I count my till making sure everything was good for the day. As the day goes on nothing really happens except for me hearing voices but no one being there. Maybe just the first day nerves I think to myself.
It's 6 p.m. and its time to close up the place. I stay and help her close and we decide to go to a sit in Mexican restaurant. We enjoy dinner but gets interrupted by her dad calling her. He is the Police Commissioner at the local Police Station. Her face expression went from happy to worried. I look at her and ask, "Babe what's wrong?" "I'll call you later." She says as she gets up and runs to her car driving away.
"Damn she was my ride home." I say as I pay for our drinks and walk out hearing a loud siren. I pick up my phone and call her but it goes straight to voice mail. I call her dad and he picks up. "Where are you right now Takeshi?" I tell him and he sends an armored vehicle picking me up. When I arrive to the fort that he is the Lieutenant of, I look around and everyone is in a panicked frenzy running around. When I get out off the vehicle Mikalae comes running hugging me close. "Come inside, we will explain everything." She says.
I follow them inside as we walk into his office. "Okay so what is going on?" I ask. "Well this is gonna be unbelievable but it's the truth. The dead has come to life. We are going to be out on the front dealing with this. We would like to know would you be willing to help us out?" He asks. "Yeah as long as I'll be able to protect Mikalae I'll join." I say as I look at her.
We get outside and we head to the armory. "Hey James. Takeshi and I are here to pick out our weapons to fight the undead." She kind of laughs. "This isn't a game Mikalae." James says as he hands her a pistol. "What weapon do you want Takeshi?" James asks me. I look around and see a Scar automatic. "I'll take this one." They both look at me. "What, I've been to a shooting range before." I say as I load and cock the gun. "Okay let's go to the shooting range." James says.
As we head to the shooting range people are giving me weird looks. "Why is everyone looking at me?" I ask. "Probably because you're dating me." She giggles as she kisses me in front of everyone. I kiss her back as we head into the shooting range. After a couple hours of shooting we take a break and head to get some lunch. "Are we staying here from now on?" I ask as we get served pizza and salad. "Yeah til further notice." James says. We finish eating and Mikalae shows us to our room. We are staying together since we are a couple, I think to myself. We have a little fun and than drift off to sleep.
We hear sirens going off in the middle of the night waking us up quick as we jump up hearing loud screams outside. I open the window to see what's going on to only see such carnage and blood everywhere. The undead had broken down the front gate tearing and eating anyone and anything in their path. We quickly put on our clothes and run downstairs seeing they haven't made it into the building yet. James comes running throwing us our guns and we run to the nearest window and shooting the undead killing most as possible.
Scream after scream is all we hear among the fort. "Dad is he okay?" She asks James with a sad and worried look. He shook his head saying he didn't know. She begins to open the door when I grabbed her. "We can't go this way. We can find another way finding your dad." I say as she agrees crying thinking the worse. We go hallway to hallway finding another route when two undead come busting trough a window as me and James take them out and running past their dead bodies.
Finally after it seems like forever we get to his office to see his door ripped apart and I tell James to keep watch as me and Mikalae walk in. She looks over to see her dad ripped in shreds. She let's out a loud scream falling to her knees crying. "Guys we need to get out of here. More are running this way. We can get to the armory and grab what we can and high tail it out of here." James says running in as I grab Mikalae and running out the back door.
The armory has been almost depleted leaving just enough ammo for our guns for a few days. I look over and see a Katana. "I'm definitely taking this." I say putting it through my belt like you see in sword movies or the anime Bleach. I slowly open the front door and the undead has mostly seem to move on upward on the fort. "Please tell me you have keys to that armored Jeep?" I ask James. He nods. Mikalae is still crying in shock. "Babe calm down. We will have a service him later." I say grabbing her and heading to the jeep. As we drive out heading towards Charlottesville, I knew this was the beginning of the end.
