As we are driving down the back country roads I have Mikalae in my arms as she is crying in her sleep. "How long have you known the Lieutenant?" I ask James. "For about 6 years now. He was the one to recruit me out of high school. I was wary at first but after a few days of talking he made me realize that I be better off in the army." He says. "Plus his daughter kind of convinced me too. Don't worry we didn't have sex or anything." He laughs. "If you did i was in the past. Yeah he can be pretty convincing. You should have seen me the first day I met him. Scary as shit. After that we were friends and I love her to death." I smile kissing her forehead as she stays asleep.
We drive around avoiding the undead. "Do you know where we are going? I'm starting to get stiff back here." I say. "Yeah we are going to there cabin in the woods." "Oh great. That sounds so safe. Hope it's not like the movie." I say as she begins to wake up. "Where are we at?" She asks tears coming down her face. "I can't believe he's gone." She whimpers. I hold her close as we reach the cabin. "Okay guys when we leave the vehicle be as quiet as y'all can." James says leaving the vehicle.
I get the guns and stuff as they go into the cabin. I hear snarls from inside the forest. "This is some messed up shit. Never thought I'd be living like in the movies." I say as I go into the cabin. They are sitting at the table as I put the stuff on the ground. I pull out my cell phone. "No service. Should've figured." I say sitting beside her. I kiss her cheek. "Baby I'm sorry. We gonna get through this. I promise."
I look outside as it starts to get dark. "Guys I'll start a fire in the fireplace." I say as I start to go outside when Mikalae yells. "Baby no. Don't go outside please. It's dangerous now." She runs hugging me. "Baby it's okay. I'm just gonna grab some wood out here in the front." I say kissing her passionately. She nods as she sits at the table. I grab a pistol and go out the door. I look around and see a few undead walking along the woods. I avoid them grabbing a few blocks of wood bringing it in and starting a fire.
Mikalae looks in the fridge. "Hey do you guys wanna have some turkey and cheese sandwiches?" She asks as we both agree. She fixes all of us a sandwich. We eat and have a bottle of water. After a while it really sinks in. "We are actually living in an apocalypse. Never thought anything like this would happen. Tomorrow let's head to the mall. We can stay there as long as we can barricade areas from the undead. Probably our safest bet." I say. "Yeah I agree. Let's get some rest. I'll take the couch." James says going to lay down as we take the bedroom.
About 3 in the morning the window in the kitchen breaks and we jump up hearing snarls as the undead are trying to climb in. James is already shooting a few killing them instantly. I run grabbing the Scar automatic. I set it out to 3 round bursts. I lay into 2 undead crawling in. "Mikalae hurry up. We need to hurry up out of here. It's getting over run in here." I yell as she finally comes in dressed grabbing gear as we do the same running out the front door hurrying up to the Jeep driving off fast.
As we start driving we can see so much carnage along the back roads knowing we wasn't the only people alive here. "Be careful James. We may not be the only targets." Mikalae says as she gets into my arms. "I know and plus I know these back roads." He says as he comes to a screeching hult. "What's wrong?" I ask as I look through the windshield and there was a big tree blocking the road.
"How we gonna pass this?" Mikalae asks. I get out of the Jeep and take my rifle with me. I go over to the tree and look around and over it. "James seems safe. Come and help me move it." I say as he gets out. We start moving the tree when we hear Mikalae scream. I see two guys pulling her out of the Jeep and take two shots putting them between the eyes. She runs up to me and points with 3 fingers letting us know there are 3 more.
We look in the woods and I notice a head sticking up from some brush. I take a shot missing on purpose and we hear the footsteps running away. "Yea they thought they was gonna get lucky." I say as we move the tree and get back to driving. We get into the city heading for the mall. We see fires and smoke all through out the city. We reach a tunnel. "I think we should walk the rest of the way avoiding noise for the zombies." They agree with me.
After a few minutes of walking we hear snarls and growls. "Okay I know you two are not military trained but we need to be as quiet as possible." James says as he crouches and looks over a vehicle assessing the situation. He comes back. "There are at least 15 zombies. We need to find another way around." I look around and see a door. "How about there?" I ask as we walk over and it's locked. I take the butt of my gun smashing the lock as it creaks open. "Good job babe." She says sarcastically. I roll my eyes and we run in shutting the door. "Let's find something to block this door." James says. We find a chair and some rope and tie the chair to the door.
We make our way through a hallway and hear a loud screech. "That can't be good." She says as we poke our heads around a corner and see what looks like a woman in a black dress standing against a door. I walk over and Mikalae says "get back here." I wave my hand off and walk over. "Are you okay miss?" I ask as she turns around and her face turns into a monster like teeth and jumps on me taking her claws and clawing my arms and side. "Mikalae takes two shots putting her down and out.
"Thank you." I say as I bandage my arm and side up. "What the fuck was that?" I look down at her and she seems like a different type of zombie. I take a picture and we head upstairs from the door she was at. We finally reach the mall from the stairs and we walk over to the front door seeing all the damage and carnage this day as turned out. "What a sad day for the world." Mikalae says.
