The movies always make the new girl seem super awkward and shy, but it's different for you. You're actually super extroverted, and you love people. Moving to Toronto from New York was scary, it really was. To a whole new country, new people. For once in your life, you were nervous, you had a whole life in New York that you left behind to come to Canada.
To be fair, most of your family lived in Toronto, so the adjustment was more homely and familiar. Your elite private high school in New York which you attended on a scholarship (your parents could never afford those exorbitant prices) was gone! You were now attending some borderline mediocre public high school that probably doesn't even have proper funding.
But you remind yourself that this is a new country, and you were willing to give Canada a chance.
MONDAY, 6:30 AM
You arose from your bed and rubbed your eyes intensely, but you still couldn't see. After bumping into a few things, you found the bathroom, freshened up, and changed into a 4*Town t-shirt, a hoodie jacket, and some baggy jeans. You looked around at your new room, some moving boxes were still present because you were too lazy to fully unpack, and they just sat there unbothered.
You heard your family's voices in the kitchen, so you got your backpack and raced there.
"Don't tell me Kai ate all of our food again!" You groaned jokingly whilst walking into the kitchen. You could feel your brother's eyes gaze directly on you, but you didn't mind. After the initial whiff of the food your Mother was making, you couldn't resist. The smell reminded you of Chinatown New Yorker cuisine. Although it's 6 in the morning, your Mom clearly prioritizes the well-being of her children.
You all sat down at the table and began eating your meal. No words were exchanged since you all were inhaling your meal and were unable to speak. After you were done, you were washing dishes until Kai came and knuckle rubbed your head.
"Ready for your first day, dorkie?" He cackled while his arm fenced your neck.
"I guess." You hummed quietly whilst washing the dishes, and he took notice.
"Hey, I'm nervous too, you know. Going to a new school in a different country- Pssh!" He made an explosion sound, and you smiled at that.
"What matters," He said while interlocking our fingers.
"We're in this together, {Y/N}." He gave me a toothy grin and hugged me.
That's what I loved about my family. Joking when necessary and support when needed were amazing qualities to have in a person. Imagine if you felt that positive aura around you 24/7. Now, do you see why I love people so much?! You checked the time and grabbed your backpack hurriedly.
You walked to school since Kai and Kristina took the car, and would not let you in. Although your extroverted personality, you were used to spending time alone since the K twins wouldn't bother talking with you.
They were going to the same high school as you but as upperclassmen. They were juniors, and you were a freshman.
"At least they had each other," You thought to yourself. You on the other hand were completely alone.
It was warm, so you unzipped your jacket, revealing your 4*Town shirt. Back in New York, all of your friends liked Brittany Spears and Miley Cyrus. They thought 4*Town was absolute garbage, but they respected your opinion and didn't say anything, so conversations were awkward when you were asked about your music taste.
But you shoved those thoughts out of your head. You didn't want to remember your past. You have a new life ahead of you, and you wanted to focus on that. But deep down, you didn't want to leave that place you called home.
Toronto was never gonna be "home" for you. New York always was and is your home. Everything was so plain and boring here. At least in New York things were the least bit interesting!
You continued walking whilst taking out your MP3 player and playing "Nobody Like U" by 4*Town.
"Never met nobody..." You hummed while giggling softly and walking. You did this for a while until you realized, you weren't going to school. You were walking around town aimlessly.
You groaned in anger and ran to the nearest bus stop.
"Shit, how do things work here? It was so different back in New York! All you had to do was take the subway!!" You whined childishly. A stranger walking by noticed the trouble you were going through and offered to help.
"Where are you trying to go?" The woman asked, rolling her stroller back and forth.
"Uh... um... Pea... Pearson! Pearson High School!" You finally said, after struggling for a bit. The woman looked at you in confusion then offered to walk you there.
While you were walking in silence, the woman with the stroller, and you with your hands in your pockets, the woman decided to speak up.
"Pearson... My daughter, Priya goes there!" The woman exclaimed whilst rolling the stroller.
"Oh, really? That's nice!" You said in your fake cheery tone. You just hoped the woman couldn't tell. You were alienated from this kind of treatment in New York, people weren't exactly known to be the kindest.
After walking for a while, you finally reached the school.
"Thank you!" You exclaimed and fidgeted with your hands after the woman left. Out in front, you saw groups of kids chatting and laughing, and you felt it was such a pain to go alone. You wished Lana, your best friend was here.
You heard the bell ring and all the kids rushing inside. You slowly walked after, and once you entered the school, and grabbed out your schedule. You looked around all throughout the school, to give you a feel of what the next few years would be like.
Let's just say, it wasn't exactly in tiptop shape. You being a bratty child, screamed and pouted at this.
"I hate it here!"
