Dewey sat on the front porch of my house, his hand scratching his neck as he stares down at Chewie. There was complete silence between the two of us before he speaks up, "So he just showed up?"
I nod, "Woke up to him cuddled up to me. Thought he was a person or something."
"No sign of anything different in your house? No broken window or even a footprint?"
"Nope."
"Strange, let me know if anything else happens. Tatum said all you girls are going to bunking together?"
"Correct."
"Well stay safe." He turns to leave
"Wait Dewey." He stops to look back at me from over his shoulder. "Thank you for always being here for Tatum and me. It's nice knowing that I have you in case something goes wrong. I appreciate it. Just know you are always welcome here, Tatum offered to make dinner every night."
He sends me a genuine smile before turning back to his car and leaving. Chewie and I sat there, watching him leave to ensure he is safe. Once he is out of my neighborhood, we head back inside. Locking the door behind us to keep the others safe.
"Just kiss already dang it," Sidney says appearing from the front window.
"Thank you for being here for Tatum and me," Tatum mocks.
"You guys are so mean to me," I huff. "I'm just trying to be nice to him. He is a sweet guy. He could be going through some hard time with the killer being around."
"Gross."
"Stop being meannnnn."
"Yeah yeah, now come on. I made dinner and I swear if it's cold, you gotta kiss my brother."
"Is that a bet or a promise?"
"Both."
Sidney heads into the kitchen with a laugh. She scoops up a spoonful of the mac n cheese that Tatum made, her smile fades as she eats it with each chew. Tatum stops, "What? Is it bad? Did I make it wrong? I know how to follow instructions"
"No." Sidney sighs. "It's hot."
"Shucks, sorry Tatum. Your brother isn't going to get a smooch from me." I shrug. "Next time I guess."
"Yeah, next time (Y/n)." Tatum evilly laughs in my direction before handing me my own bowl of mac n cheese. Shrugging a gladly take the bowl and sit on the floor, savoring each noodle as it enters my hungry stomach. Everyone gives me an odd glance before soon joining me, the only sound of Chewie snoring in the next room could be heard.
This moment is something I've always dreamed of. Pure happiness. Just friends hanging out with each other and focusing on the moment, not what is about to come. I'd give anything for this moment to always be present, but I know the truth. Right now nothing can be rainbows and unicorns, because why not. A psycho killer is running around. These girls deserve the world and I just can't find a way to give it to them.
"That was yummy Tatum, thank you," Sidney says getting up to wash out her bowl. "I think I'm going to go shower. How about we end the day with a movie?"
"Sounds like a plan," I agree.
"Perfect."
Tatum also gets up, pulling me up from the floor. We laugh as we wash our bowls, occasionally splashing each other. "You're badddd." I drown out to the other female, soaked after she sprayed me fully.
She places her hands on her hips with a smile, "I'm not bad, I'm Tatum."
"Oi, guys! We got a comedian in the houseeeee."
"Who are you talking to?"
"I don't know, Chewie?"
"Yeah yeah yeah, go change miss swamp monster."
"Rude."
I flip her off as I make my way upstairs, faintly hearing Sidney sing in the shower downstairs. Stripping out of my wet jeans, I put on some nighttime shorts, along with a new t-shirt. Well, something that wasn't drenched by the water maiden downstairs. Grabbing a few blankets off of my bed I make my way downstairs. That was until I could hear the wind pick up.
Was it supposed to storm tonight? I guess I haven't checked recently. That's not on top of my priority I guess.
Dropping the blankets on the floor I go up to my window. In the distance, I can see storm clouds and darkness coming in quickly. So quick that I can already time out how far the thunder is from me. Sighing a let the storm smell enter my nose, comfort washing over me.
"You know you can catch a cold," I hear someone sigh behind me.
"I know but i-" I pause.
New voice? I've never heard that voice before.
