"Professor Sprout," (Y/n) called, standing outside the door as fourth-year Ravenclaws and Gryffindors filed out. "Professor Flitwick says your plant care sheet copies are done printing," she said."Leave them in the mailbox, dear!" Professor Sprout shouted back.
"Will do," (Y/n) said, slipping a big pile of care sheets into the largely enchanted mailbox before letting Ginny link her arms with hers. "Hey," she greeted.
"Hi," Ginny replied.
"Hi, (Y/n)!" Lavender and Parvati chorused from the distance. They were returning from Care of Magical Creatures with the rest of the class.
Ginny and (Y/n) watched as Luna emerged last, trailing behind the rest of the lass, a smudge of earth on her nose and her hair tied in a knot on the top of her head. Her eyes lit up excitedly at the sight of Harry and she beelined straight for him. Many of the surrounding students turned curiously to watch. Luna took a great breath and then said, without so much as a preliminary hello: "I believe He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is back, and I believe you fought him and escaped him."
"Er— right," said Harry awkwardly. Luna was wearing what looked like a pair of orange radishes for earrings, a fact that Parvati and Lavender seemed to have noticed, as they were both giggling and pointing at her earlobes.
"You can laugh!" Luna said, her voice rising, apparently under the impression that Parvati and Lavender were laughing at what she had said rather than what she was wearing. "But people used to believe there were no such things as Blibbering Humdinger or the Crumple-Horned Snorkack!"
"Well, they were right, weren't they?" said Hermione impatiently. "There weren't any such things as Blibbering Humdinger or the Crumple-Horned Snorkack."
"No, you must understand," Parvati said with a grin. "We just loved your earrings, Luna. Where'd you get them?" Hermione sent them a stink-eye and Luna absolutely beamed.
"(Y/n) made them for me," Luna said proudly. "Aren't they nice?"
"Very," Lavender blurted. Luna flounced away, radishes swinging madly. Parvati and Lavender drew to an abrupt halt as they realized the girl they very deeply admired was on good terms with someone that was... odd. The other people present, however, hooted with laughter.
(Y/n) smiled softly at Luna, whom she had been waiting for. She licked her thumb and wiped the dirt off Luna's face before they walked off. Ginny went with them, though she was far more interested in going with (Y/n) rather than (Y/n) and Luna.
"No way," Parvati said in disbelief.
"What?" Dean rose an eyebrow.
"How is someone like (Y/n) friends or dating or... something with Loony Luna?" Parvati asked.
"Luna's mum is (Y/n)'s godmother," Hermione said dismissively.
At five to five, Harry and (Y/n) made for Umbridge's office on the third floor. When Harry knocked on the door she said, "Come in," in a sugary voice. They entered cautiously, looking around.
The surfaces had all been draped in lacy covers and cloths. There were several vases full of dried flowers, each residing on its own doily, and on one of the walls was a collection of ornamental plates, each decorated with a large Technicoloured kitten wearing a different bow around its neck. Horrified, Harry looked to (Y/n), whose cheeks were puffed slightly due to the laugh she seemed to be holding back.
"Good evening Miss (Y/l/n) and Mr. Potter."Startled, the two looked around. They had not noticed her at first because she was wearing a luridly flowered set of robes that blended only too well with the tablecloth on the desk behind her.
"Evening," the two chorused stiffly.
