What the fuck was happening?

She beamed again, clapping her hands together. "Oh I've waited sooooooooo long to meet you! I'm sorry to hear about your friends," My eyes widened in size, I was never shocked, never, but now I genuinely was. "At least they have a lovely place to lie and rest in now! Those gravestones we're lovely!"

My blood chilled over and I bared my teeth. "Carlisle!" I saw him almost startle. My eyes shot to him, I was already a few paces away from the man on the ground, shoulders widened and chest puffed out. I was ready to fight. "Why have you taken in a soldier and a seer into you house!?"

The dirty blonde man was about to stand up, I seethed at him, red eyes burning. "You stay the fuck down until I tell you to get up."
He looked over his shoulder, the same humouristic spark in his peer. His lips were widened in a larger sneer than before, it confused me. Why did he find this funny? He fell back down on his knees on the gravel, his hands slowly going up in the air as he bowed his head. "Yes Ma'am."

Carlisle took a few cautious steps froward, eyes kind as always as he placed a hand on the small girl's shoulder. Something inside of me stirred. I didn't know what it was, but my chest twisted when I saw the gesture. "Ettie, this is Alice. She can see the future... And that's Jasper, he's an empath—"

An empath?

I locked everything away, even from Edward. I swallowed up my shock and forced the constant cool of monotone waves to caress my soul. Nothing went in, and nothing went out. No one could feel what I felt, not even I knew what I felt.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Edward squint his eyes, narrowing them on me like I was the carrier of the black plague. "Great, keep living in that shell of yours Scarlett, because it just makes everything so much better!"

Carlisle sighed and eyed his son, shaking his head disapprovingly. "Alice saw a future with us, so she tracked us down with Jasper and now they're here," I could hear the suggestive tone in his voice as he grew cheeky, sheepishly smiling at me. "Besides... You've been alone for—"

The bubbling red emotion returned. "Carlisle."

"—I've watched you be—"

"Carlisle."

"—by yourself for so long so I thought, maybe—"

"Christ, Carlisle!" He stopped talking, eyes snapping to my red ones. "I don't love!"

"But—"

"No, Carlisle. I kill people for fucks sake!"
I pinched the bridge of my nose. Did he really not understand? We had lived decades together, and he still couldn't grasp the fact that I didn't do love, almost not in any way. I've had a few...affairs in the past, but those never lasted longer than a few weeks at best. Besides, they only played on one thing and one thing only, sex. This wasn't anything like it, love was devotion in its highest form, I knew devotion better than anyone, but love? Fuck no, love was as foreign as the neighbour next door.

"Ettie," He sighed and glanced at me with a grimace. "You don't have to bring those details up."

Great, now he was disgusted too. My jaws clenched, he was disgusted? I could make him want to vomit, so why not just spill it all? "What, Carlisle? You don't like the fact that I've slit throats of women and children, strangled new born babies alive and manipulated men into having sex with me for information? Oh, I'm sorry, I thought that already had been cleared. Maybe I was mistaken."

I sighed, making me even more obloxious. "Oh, my bad! I wasn't supposed to tell you about the information-for-kinky-sex-missions. Or the handjob-in-a-restaurant for locations, or the sex auctions! Oh my, sorry Carlisle, I don't know what's flown over me!" I acted all innocent, it turned into a scoff. "Maybe it's the permanent skull fracture dented into my head that's finally taking its toll!"
