Bonnie Jackson.
Goose bumps rose over my skin as another strong breeze floated over the restaurant's roof top. The place had waiters dressed in all black with white aprons running around, taking and placing orders. The number of people here tonight was quite high due to it being a Friday night, most of them wearing clothing that looked warm and comfortable. I, for one, didn't have that luxury.
I had squeezed myself in to the only dress I had, which was sadly a few sizes too small now, and shoved my feet in to my best shoes which were now beginning to cause pain and discomfort throughout my entire lower body. My brunette hair had started off beautifully curled but now felt tangled and all over the place from the wind. The idea behind my make up was good, a light coverage to hide blemishes and a slight smokey eye with nude lip stick, but the end result was not as expected. Instead, I was only left with enough time for some mascara and a little bit of concealer.
I huffed and tilted my head back, admiring the stars and trying to recall where some constellations were. I found two before giving up, rubbing my hands roughly along my arms to gain heat from the friction.
"May I take your order now, ma'am?" The waiter, who had asked the same thing only minutes earlier, questioned. I shook my head and picked up the menu, opening to a random page and pretending to read until he walked off.
This had been such a stupid idea. My best friend and roommate Nathan had forced me in to the terrible world that is internet dating. It had started off fine, the two of us sitting on the couch in pajama's as we laughed at badly edited pictures of old men. It was even fun talking to them and feeding fake information, just to see how many disgusting fake facts about me it'd take for them to lose interest. But everything changed when I got a message from one account. His picture had been a normal looking selfie with a slight filter. His age was actually close to mine and he lived nearby. Nathan had almost cried when I disagreed to his idea of a meeting with the guy. I continued talking to the man, who I only knew as cliff1995, for a few weeks. Then one day, the little message popped up suggesting we meet. And I'd agreed.
So here I was, sitting at a date that some stranger had arranged, waiting for him. I regretted agreeing so bad, he was late to his own date! Nathan had taken the time out of his day to buy some pepper spray and slip it in to my bag, which I thanked him for.
"Bonnie?" I was snapped out of my thoughts by a nervous voice. I put down the menu and smiled, looking up at the guy I've been waiting for. My smile instantly dropped and was replaced by a frown.
"Your profile picture does not look like you." I stated. The man in front of me had thin blonde and blue hair, his picture had black. His eyes were green, the picture's brown. His skin was pale, the picture's tan. I watched as he raised an arm and scratched the back of his neck, a nervous chuckle leaving from between his lips.
"Yeah, I know. May I sit?" He asked. I nodded and attempted to fix my hair as he pulled out the chair across from me and sat down. He stared at me as I attempted finishing the final touch ups. "You're even prettier in person." My cheeks turned pink at the compliment as my hands dropped in to my lap.
"Are you going to explain the profile picture thing or leave me guessing?" I asked, grabbing my glass of water and sipping from the straw. He smiled at me.
"Just going to leave you guessing, it's a part of my plan."
"Your plan?"
"To keep beautiful girls like you interested." I smiled and crossed my arms, scanning his body from the blue and blonde hair atop his head to the middle of his black band shirt, the rest hidden under the table.
"You're quite the charmer Mr..."
"Clifford. Michael Clifford." He finished the sentence for me as he held out his hand. I grasped it in mine and smiled slightly at how perfectly it fit in his.
