THE SOUND OF laughter could be heard throughout the bayou as the night sky was still up. The chirps of crickets and the hooting of owls could be heard as it added to the laughter of the small group of five. Y/n, Tian, Naveen and Louis all held makeshift bowls in their hands as they ate the gumbo Tian had made with the help of Y/n and Naveen as they listened to Ray tell them a joke, which caused the laughter to be heard all around.
Louis was leaning against a tree as he seemed to have gotten over the pain from earlier while the three frogs stood across from them, enjoying Tian's delicious food he had made.
"Anyone for seconds?" Tian asks.
"That was magnificent! You truly have a gift, Tian." Naveen compliments.
Y/n nods in agreement. "You really do. But, I mean, I already knew that."
"Why, thank you." Tian replies as he fills Naveen's bowl, feeling himself blush at Y/n's words.
Ray suddenly gasps, staring at the sky. "There she is. The sweetest firefly in all creation."
Y/n smiles, sharing a glance with the two boys. "Evangeline?"
"I wanna meet this girl. Where she at?" Louis questions as he stuffs the food in his mouth.
"How can you miss her? She glowing right up there in front of y'all." Ray replies.
At his words, the three frogs glance at one another in confusion before they follow his gaze and look up at the night sky he had been looking at, seeing all the stars sitting around. But one very bright one seemed to have Ray's attention as he kept his eyes on it, staring at the bright and beautiful star with a look of awe evident on his face.
RAY:
"Look how she lights up the sky. Ma belle Evangeline."
A look of realization comes onto the frogs faces as they all glance at one another, realizing he had been talking about the bright and beautiful star high up in the night sky that shined down right on them. They watch as Ray makes a heart out of his light around the star just from where they were at in the bayou.
Louis laughs, clearly thinking he was crazy. "That ain't no fire--"
However, the alligator is cut off when a pinecone suddenly hits the back of his head. Rubbing the spot the pinecone had hit him, he glances over his shoulder at the three frogs that were sitting on a lily pad, seeing both Naveen and Tian shush him as they place their fingers against their lips, wanting to listen to their firefly friend.
"So far above me, yet I... Know her heart belongs to only me."
The frogs smile when he makes a heart in a tree trunk, drawing an arrow into it with his light and then the initials E and R appear as it said 'E+R', meaning Evangeline plus Raymond.
When the firefly began singing in French, Naveen turned to the other two frogs and translated the words for them, but clearly, they didn't know that as they look at him in confusion before he tells them he was translating it for them.
"You're my queen of the night. So still, so bright. That someone as beautiful as she Could love someone like me. Love always finds a way, it's true. And I love you, Evangeline."
Naveen glances over at Tian who had been sitting in-between him and Y/n, seeing he was continuously glancing at the girl beside him. A soft smile comes onto his face as he nudges the boy, making him look at him before he motions to Y/n who was watching Ray with a smile.
When Tian gave him a confused look, the prince gestures as a dance before pointing at Y/n who didn't notice their actions. A look of realization comes onto Tian's face, seeming to look panicked if he didn't know if he should do it or not. However, he didn't seem to have a choice when Naveen gently shoved him against her before hopping onto another lily pad.
Seeing Y/n look at him with a confused look, Tian sent a panicked and glare glance at Naveen who only rolled his eyes, hopping back over, positioning them to dance before he hopped back over to Louis and Ray.
The two best friends look at one another in the eyes with awe and love as Louis started playing his trumpet and Naveen grabbed a stick with spiderwebs on it, using it as a makeshift ukulele like he's done before. The three males all watched as the two danced together, somehow getting the hang of it since they haven't really danced before.
Seeing all the flowers on lily pads that surrounded the two who were also standing on a lily pad, Ray flies over and lights them with sparkles-like lights from his own light. With newfound confidence, Tian twirls the girl before he dove both of them in the water, the light of Ray's light shining through the water as they dance beneath the small waves of the bayou.
"Love is beautiful. Love is wonderful. Love is everything. Do you agree?"
Still dancing, the two hop up and out of the water, up in the sky and slightly in front of the bright star before Tian lands on a small branch-like leaf from a bush before he softly lands back on the lily pad, helping Y/n down as well. Twirling her again, Tian lets himself dip Y/n down as they continue staring into each other's eyes, the bright star shining against Y/n's eyes that Tian could see.
"Look how she lights up the sky. I love you, Evangeline."
Slowly, Tian brings her back up, his hand cupping the back of her head while on of her hands cup the side of his frog face. Their eyes continue to stare into each others, finding themselves lean a bit closer.
Naveen shares an excited glance with Louis and Ray, hoping they'd actually kiss. However, Y/n found herself pulling away bit, her mind going back to the mission they needed to do so they'd turn back to normal.
"We best be pushing on." Y/n insists.
After that, she hops on the other lily pads and back towards their friends. With a frown, Naveen hops over to Tian, gently patting his shoulder as the boy stared at Y/n's retreating figure with a frown. Beginning to hop off as well, Tian stops himself at the sound of Naveen shouting his and Y/n's names, all of them looking over and seeing he was being dragged away by what looked to be shadows.
Quickly, all four of them were rushing after him as Naveen grabbed a log, trying to get the shadow to let go of his shadow but his grip had been released from the log as he continued to be dragged away. All of a sudden, a bright light hit the shadow that had ahold of him, the grip releasing as he fell into the water while the light hit all the other shadows, making them all disappear.
The others all stop just a few feet away from Naveen as their eyes widen at the sight of a large shadow being seen in some smoke. What they didn't expect was to see an old lady walk out, a torch in her hand. The old lady, Mama Odie, twisted the stick she had in her hand before blowing out the light.
"Not bad for a 197 year old blind lady. Now which one of you naughty children been messing with the Shadow Man?" Mama Odie asks.
In response, Tian and Y/n give Naveen a knowing look as Louis only points at the frog, silently telling the old lady it was him while Naveen gives a sheepish smile, his shoulders raising in embarrassment.
