"How are you really?" I asked Gloria, taking a sip of my drink I just bought. I decided to go out to Starbucks, just to ease the sadnesses a little bit.
"I'm devastated. I'm gonna miss you so much that it hurts me so much to even think of you gone." she said while putting her head in the palm of her hands.
"I know but I can't do anything about this. I'm gonna miss you too Glor. I want you to know that I love you so much, and I'm so glad I met you. You are my only true friend and hurts me more than words can say that I have to leave. " I said through my cracked words.
She sighed and took a sip of her drink. "I'm coming with you to the airport." It sounded more like a statement then a question.
"I don't know Gloria. If you come it'll be even harder for me to leave; and plus I don't want you near my mother."
"And I'm telling you, I don't give two shits." Gloria said with a stern stare.
There's the Gloria I know and love.
"Okay fine, but how are you getting back?" I ask in defeat.
"Well my plan is to tell my mom I'm going to be with you all day. Then when you leave I'll call her to get me from the airport, and before you say it's a bad plan, I don't care if she gets mad at me."
I smile and shake my head with amusement.
"Okay" I agree.
Gloria and I chatted a little bit, before it was time for me to go home and get my suitcase. Gloria and I walked to my house with smiles in our face. If it was gonna be the last time I see Gloria, I don't want to go knowing she was crying.
"Stay out here I'll be right back okay." I said to Gloria.
"Okay."
Gloria knows how much I hate my mom and how she keeps the house. My room is probably the cleanest part of the house, and I just don't want her to see it, even if we are moving.
"Get your shit quickly, because the cab will be here any minute!" My mother screamed.
I ignored her and ran up to my room that is no longer mine. I picked up my suitcase off the bare mattress, and started toward the door, until I stopped and saw the smashed picture frame on the floor. The picture was still underneath all the broken glass and still in tact.
"Hurry up!" I heard my mother call. "The taxi is here!
Ignored her again and walked up to the broken pieces of glass. I carefully pulled out the picture and brushed off any broken glass on it. I smiled at it and carefully put it in my suitcase.
I walked up to my bedroom door and looked at it one last time then shut the door and ran down the steps toward the front door.
"Finally. what took you so long?" My mother asked in a agitated voice.
"Nothing. I was just getting my suitcase"
We walked outside and my mother took notice that Gloria was sitting in the backseat of the cab. I smiled with amusement, as Gloria waved sarcastically to my mom.
"What the hell is she doing in there?" My mother whisper screamed.
"She's coming to the airport with us. I said as casually as possible.
"No she isn't. You didn't tell me."
I leaned up towards her ear and whispered "Oops." With a smile on my face.
I walked toward the taxi door then looked back to see my mother fuming. "and yes, she is coming. whether you like it or not, so I suggest you get in the cab before the meter goes up." I said proudly as I was taking words she said yesterday to me.
