Secrets and New friends

"Hannahs dad found out," Alex muttered with a face that described pain. 

“What’s up with Hannah’s dad?” I asked 

“Promise you won’t tell your brothers?” Caleb asked We hoped in the car and went off to school. Once we got there and got signed in I walked to class to health class to see Caleb, Damien, James, Alex and Tori but no Hannah sitting at the back of the class I smiled at them as I gave my note to my teacher Mr Cooper and sat next to the empty seat next to Tori. 

“You’re in one piece?” Caleb asked shocked 

“Yeah just got grounded for a week and a stupid lecture,” I lied 

“Oh okay well Hannah just texted me. Her dad found out,” Alex said with alarm 

Everybody in the group made a 

“Yeah of course I won’t tell them now what?” I asked concerned 

“Hannah’s father is a workaholic and doesn’t see Hannah all too much and Hannah doesn’t hear from him either but when he is home well things get bad,” Alex explained 

“Does he hit her?” I asked 

“Well he hits her but not in places you could see well or he hits with enough force to hurt but not leave a mark. He calls her the worse names in the book mainly about her mother who died giving birth to her. The worse thing is Hannah is a high suicide risk girl so we worry when her dad comes home,” Caleb admitted 

“Caleb don’t tell that much we hardly know Scar, no offence Scar,” Alex lectured 

“Why doesn’t she just tell the police?” I asked 

“She has a little half-brother Archer who is six, if she tells she gets spilt up from him and everything will go wrong that is why you can’t tell. Don’t worry her dad realises what he has done after a day or so and buy her something really cool to say sorry,” James chimed in 

Mr Cooper walked up to us and tapped the desk to get attention off of him we all looked up then asked “Do you know the answer?”  

“To what question because in my experience living in the lords name is the meaning of life,” Alex smirked 

The class let out a small chuckle and Mr Cooper smiled and shook his head, “No Miss Prose my question was the average calorie intake of a teenage girl who lacks exercise but obviously you were not listening,” He chuckled 

“One thousand four hundred minimum averages for a sedentary adolescent female,” I muttered 

“Correct miss?” He asked for my last name

“Jonas but please call me Scar,” I smiled 

“Oh yes I heard the Jonas boys had a little sister living with them,” He smiled walking back to the front of the class He re-opened his mouth to talk but the bell went for maths 

In maths class I fell asleep and woke up to the old crinkly face of Mrs Carter in front of me that made me scream I was put on lunch detention for 25 minutes witch contained me writing lines of ‘I will not sleep in class’ then five minutes for drinking half a box of up and go breakfast that I had brought at the canteen. I walked into Geography for a surprise quiz that went for over half the lesson the other half of the lesson was consisted of me getting asked where Caleb, Damien, James, Alex and Tori who sent me a text saying that they were truanting and if I wanted to join I lied and said I was already in class but go on without me. But when people asked I said I did not know. In history I sat next to this girl named Julianna her classmate friend, Lindy, had been sent to the office during Geography for drawing on the table. 

“So I haven’t seen you around much,” I smiled at Julianna 

“Yeah it is my mission to be invisible during high school,” She joked

“The name’s Scarlett,” I smiled 

“Julianna but of course you know that,” She laughed as she remembered Lindy calling out her name 

“Yeah your friend seems amusing,” I complemented 

“Thanks she has been like that since she was young. Hey don’t we have religion next with your older brother Pastor Joseph?” She asked

“Ugh I am going to die from embarrassment,” I moaned 

“Could be worse,” She shrugged 

“How can it be worse?” I asked  

“Could be worse they could be teachers,” She shrugged 

I looked at her SRC name badge of Julianna Cooper “Is MR Cooper your father?” I asked shocked 

“Yeah and Mrs Cooper is my mom but she works with the six graders,” She admitted 

“Wow that would suck so much,” I exclaimed as the bell went “Hey can you hang with me during Religion I don’t want to seem like a forever alone meme,” I grinned 

Julianna let out a small chuckle “yeah sure besides my friends from the joining class are out truanting,” She admitted 

“Same, why aren’t you with them though?” I asked 

“My dad would kill me, then my mom, then my older brothers and then my older sister,” She smiled 

I smiled as the convocation continued until we reached Religion in a small chapel-like building. Joe was standing near the entrance as boys rushed in to the snack table to eat. I smiled at Joe as I walked pass and sat on the bench near the back wall with Julianna. My stomach started hurting again so I put my hand on it and grinned trying to act all natural

“What’s up with your stomach? Julianna asked noticing me holding my belly button area   

“I am fine just hit my stomach on the bench as we walked in,” I lied 

Joe walked up to me and handed a piece of paper “Where is your friends?” He asked holding more envelopes 

“I don’t know,” I lied opening the piece of paper  

‘For breaking the student code of conduct by not presenting herself to two classes on the 2nd May your daughter Scarlett Mackenzie Jonas has been asked to attend morning detention at the time starting of 5:45 am – 8:00 am on the 3rd May. Please sign below whether you can or cannot allocate your child to school or if you would prefer an afterschool detention time starting at 5:00 pm- 7: 15 pm ‘Below Joe had signed and circled morning detention 

“Gee thanks,” I muttered as he pulled away the envelope and gave it to a nearby teacher who must’ve walked off to the office. 

Religion was fun though. Joe mainly sung Christian songs and people danced but my stomach hurt too much to dance so I smiled and sung along with Julianna. Sometimes he would give a sermon from a passage from the bible but it was mainly like a small disco. The bell rung and I remembered my fate at home although Joe had calmed down I knew that I would say something stupid to fuel his anger. I gave Julianna a hug and walked out to the car park with her and Joe where she gave Mr Cooper a hug (I mean her dad) and went off into her car. I slid into the front seat of Joes car and turned on the radio until Joe turned it off and looked at me. 

“Your friend is Julianna is that right?” He asked 

“Yeah she is Mr and Mrs Cooper’s kid I know,” I shifted awkwardly around 

“She is a good kid, why don’t you invite her over sometime?” Joe asked 

“Yeah maybe,” I shrugged  

“You know you are in trouble once we are home right?” Joe asked 

“Well at lease you have calmed down now,” I shrugged smiling.
