Angela doesn’t remember much of what happened after she left her last class of the day. She remembers being dragged somewhere by someone; probably another teacher. Someone was carrying her backpack, which had fallen during the fall. She remembers crying for help, and begging them to drop her backpack. But all she could remember afterwards was being placed in a chair in a dark room, alone. She didn’t know where she was or who had taken her from her classroom. All she knew is that she couldn’t leave. She would die without knowing what was going on outside. Or worse yet, she would never know anything at all.
Angela was told to wait there, alone, until her family arrived. The police officer had said something along the lines of ‘she may be dangerous, but she seems harmless enough.’ After that, she was sent to some kind of hospital, although she couldn’t tell how long she was there. She could feel pain throughout her body, but couldn’t really remember any of the injuries that she might’ve sustained.
At least the pain helped keep her mind distracted from her own fear. She tried hard not to think about the fact that she wouldn’t see her family again. At least not in her lifetime. A scientist came in " uh, a magician, you are discusting, you are using the chamber of a good felow human ". She wasn’t quite sure what the man had meant by that but she could guess. She was a monster, a disgusting human being.
The hours went by slowly, and Angela kept looking at her hands waiting to see if they were glowing again. They were still her normal pale blue, but her hands had started to shake uncontrollably, making her grip the arms of the chair tighter. She felt like she was going crazy. She wanted to scream, to cry, to do anything other than sit there and wait.
Suddenly, the door opened and a tall man walked in. He looked like he was in his late thirties, with short brown hair and a beard. He wore an old coat over a plain white shirt. His face lit up when he noticed the chair she was sitting in. He took off his coat, folded it neatly across his arm and sat down opposite her. For a second, Angela thought it was a hallucination or something because he was the hottest man she has ever seen. But then his green eyes met hers and she realised she was not seeing things. This had to be real.
"Hello dearie", he greeted her, his voice smooth. She blinked twice, unsure whether she had heard correctly. "Excuse me?"
He smiled at her, "I asked if you were alright?" He gestured toward her shaking fingers.
"I'm fine", she whispered under her breath. She quickly grabbed her shaking hands and held them in her lap.
He gave her a curious look, and then turned back to his notebook. "My name is Eward, i am a magician too." He glanced up again. "And you may call me Ed."
"It's nice to meet you", Angela said softly. She stared at him in complete disbelief, wondering what else there was to say.
"Are your parents coming to pick you up?", he asked, glancing behind him.
Angela shook her head, "I don't have any parents".
His face changed into a confused expression, "Oh", he muttered. "Sorry about that."
They spent the next half hour chatting and Ed explained what it was like to be a magician. She found herself growing increasingly interested in learning more about magic. Ed had always loved magicians since he was little and had read many books about them. Although he preferred working with animals to people, he could perform any type of spell he wanted and it always amazed him, everytime it happened. As he spoke, Angela watched him closely and listened to every word he said. When he finished speaking, she felt her heart soar and her stomach twist. He looked at her expectantly.
"Do you want to learn about magic ? You have the capacities, look at your glowing hands". He raised both his hands to show her the palms, filled with tiny golden particles floating in midair. Her eyebrows rose in interest. She nodded enthusiastically and let him take her hands. She closed her eyes, concentrating on feeling the magic flowing through her. A small smile broke out across her lips and Ed let go of her hands.
Angela opened her eyes and saw a shimmery glow emanating from her palms. A small laugh escaped her lips. She was surprised and delighted by the power that surrounded her. She reached her hand out to Ed and he took it again, giving her a soft squeeze as he did so. Then, a large smile spread across her face. Then a doctor knocked at the door. Ed said : " Angela, take your decision now, do you want to study at Magik University ?"
Angela nodded excitedly. Ed gave her one last smile before disappearing.
