*Regulus POV*

She looked so worn out. I'm glad she was getting some sleep, she needed it. How could Mattheo do that to her?

When she told me I wanted nothing more than to find him and give him what he deserved for what he did to Y/n. She looked like she was about to fall apart, I had to be there for her. I had seen how much her friendship with Mattheo meant to her and it meant everything.

I still sat in the chair, reading by her side as she slept. It was probably around midnight when the door opened and in trodded Mattheo, from where I sat I could already smell the weed radiating off him. He was high.

"What the hell is your fucking problem!" I whisper yelled, to not wake Y/n.

"Back the fuck off Regulus, I'm not in the mood for a fight, I just wanna go to bed." He said, his voice dead.

"Look at her." I can feel my body heating and tensing, he doesn't deserve her at all. "Look at her!" He finally looks where she lays in my shirt. Her soft hair fanning the pillow, covers pulled up to her shoulders. "Despite how little you deserve it. That girl cares about you more than I will ever be able to comprehend." I explain.

"Look, you don't know me and you don't know her, so lets just leave it there. Goodnight." He snaps and tried to get to the bathroom, but I get in his way.

"She walked in here trying not to cry for fucks sake and breaks down because of what you did. What you did. That's on you Mattheo. How could you fucking do that to her you asshole, she clearly has feelings for you." I scorn, I am so ready to punch this guy.

"Yeah, yeah I am an asshole. And I'm sorry, you have no fucking clue how sorry I am." He says in a calm voice now, no longer laced with frustration. "I care about her, but I- I had to."
"What do you mean Mattheo?"

He walks over to his chest of draws and pulls out a letter, the writing curved and smooth.

"I got this yesterday." He swallows, "It's from my father, and I don't know if Y/n' s told you but my father is cruel and manipulative and violent and when someone gets in his way. They die. They die, Regulus." He says all at once and shoves the letter in my hand, I take it. "Read it." He demands and I obey.

Son,

It has always been known by everyone, including you, that you are to be my successor. I have taught you, influenced you, groomed you into the disgrace i call my son, but it is no ones fault but my own and I will never be able to forgive myself for how you have turned out.

However, I have known for some time that you've befriended that girl, yes, it's come to my attention that they two of you are rather close. Y/n I believe her name is... Yes, that muggle born scum, that filth. How dare you associate with their sought. I belive your friendship with her is weakening your ability to do, become, what you have been raised to complete. To, when you are ready, join my side.

The solution is simple. Distance. Make her hate you, make her feel sick at the sight of you. Make her despise your very existence.

Or she dies. And I'm sure you know, death by my hand is never pleasant. Slow. Agonizingly slow. Or maybe the cruiciartis curse will work. I haven't yet decided.

     Get it done.

                                        -Voldemort.

I place the letter down and see that Mattheo is crying.

"I'm going to lose her either way so you have to promise me, be there for her." He says and hugs me, I hug him back.

"You're a brave one, I'll give you that." I say and he chuckles.

"I had to hurt her. I have to make her hate me, just promise me you'll look after her." Mattheo pleads and I nod.

"I can try, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything." I say and he nods. We look towards Y/n and we both have one thing in common. We would never let her get hurt by anyone else. This was for her own good.
