The next day in Mystic Falls at the Salvatore Boarding School...

Hope and Faith wake up in their bedroom.

"Mom?" Hope and Faith said in unison.

"Hope, Faith." Freya said as she sat across from them.

Hope and Faith look around as they call out. "Mom?"

"I'm here." Freya said as she approaches them.

"What happened?" Hope asked as she panics.

"Where is she?" Faith asked as she panics as well.

"Breathe. You girls are safe now." Freya said

"Where is our mom?" Hope and Faith asked in unison.

At the exact moment, the light bulbs around Hope and Faith shatter with their magic.

Freya has tears in her eyes as she sits next to Hope.

"What?" Hope and Faith asked in unison.

"She's gone." Freya said sadly.

Hope and Faith read their aunt's eyes and know that their aunt is telling the truth... their mother is no longer with them.

"No, no. No, no. No, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no... No. No... No..." Hope and Faith said in unison repeatedly.

Freya pulls Hope and Faith into an embrace as they sob.

Over on the side table of Hope's bed, there's a picture of Hayley, Hope and Faith when they were younger.

Tears run down, Hope and Faith's faces as they cry for the loss of their mother.

A silence has fallen over New Orleans as everyone feels the loss of the Crescent queen.

At the compound, Klaus was in the study and was sitting in the dark until a letter appears out of thin air.

Klaus grabs the letter and sees that it's from Caroline. This is what the letter said...

Dear Klaus,

You and I are no strangers to heartbreak, and yet, each loss hits more deeply than one before. I've had to return to my daughters, as I'm sure you understand. Please know I am a phone call away if you need a friend. With all my sorrow, and with love for you and your family, Caroline.

Klaus has a sad look on his face as he puts the letter down and exhales.

Inside Rousseau's, Josh is blaming himself for Hayley's death. There is a lot of that going on.

"This is my fault. I'm the one who let Greta get away." Josh said

He then pours drinks for himself, Vincent and Marcel.

"You can't beat yourself up over this, Josh. Greta's plan was already in motion. You didn't start the fire, you just got burnt by the flame, like everybody else." Vincent said

"Yeah, well, still, I can't believe this was our people who did this to Hayley." Josh said

"Those are not our people, all right? They are a cancer that needs to be wiped out." Marcel said

"That can wait til tomorrow. Today is about grieving. I set up a truce between all four of the factions. This afternoon, we have the second line, and then, this evening, we have our werewolf funeral." Vincent said

"And Klaus? Don't mean to be the doomsday prophet, but if he's in the city, with Hope and Faith, he brings all that chaos back with him." Josh said

"No, no, he'll do the right thing for New Orleans and his daughters." Marcel said
