My alarm clock started yelling at me. I could just hear it in my head, It's time to wake up, you lazy sack of disappointment. Groaning, I hauled my body out of bed with great difficulty. I was, however, still wrapped in a blanket. I threw on some ripped skinny jeans, a t-shirt, and my everyday accessories. Bracelets to cover the scars, my converse, some new gauges that I bought, and my trusty eyeliner. After getting dressed, I noticed a pain in my stomach... It was so painful that I had to hold one hand on my stomach as I walked downstairs to the kitchen. I guess that's what I get for not eating dinner...
As I walked into the kitchen, I saw my mom rushing around trying to get her stuff ready for work, "Morning sweetie. How was yesterday? And sorry about last night, you looked really tired when I poked my head in, so I decided not to wake you."
"It was good... I guess. I made some friends with some slutty cheerleaders... I think they really admired how I told them off when they said I was creepy."
She laughed at my sarcasm and then responded, "Well, give it a few days and you could make some new friends." She looked at me and smiled, "Well I have to get to work. Love you. See you tonight." And just like that, I was alone... I love my mom, I really do. I admire how she balances me and her job, even before we moved. I just wish she would take a break every once in a while... But I never bring it up because, to me, it sounds a little selfish... I mean, that job makes it possible for us to start over. Without my dad.
All of these thoughts were running through my head as I grabbed a granola bar and headed to school. When I got there, people were talking about a quiz in English... Um, what? No... No, no, no. I hope not.
Sure enough, 2nd period, there was a quiz. Before class, I went to ask the teacher if there was any way I could take the test another day, because of my lack of notes due to yesterday being my first day and all...
"Sorry Alex, but you should have been more prepared. Just because yesterday was your first day doesn't mean you get special treatment. You should have gotten the notes from a classmate."
Could she even hear herself....? I sauntered back to my seat, when an arm coming from behind me was handing me a page of notes. I turned around, and saw him. The guy from my dream. Right in front of me. In my class. Handing me notes. The dark hair. The unmistakable blue eyes.
"Here, look through this, so you actually get an idea of what we're learning," he said smiling. His voice was fairly deep, but just right to fit his appearance.
"Oh. Thanks." I took the page from his hand. Okay, so it's a quiz on Romeo and Juliet. How hard can that be? I handed the notes right back to the cute guy, who was literally right behind me, but just one seat to the right. I didn't see him yesterday. Maybe he called in sick. I mouthed "thanks" to him and could see him reply with a "welcome". I was done with the quiz within 30 minutes. It was easier than I thought it would be, but it was like a 25 question quiz. I thought quizzes were supposed to be short...? I didn't see the guy again that morning... Is this school really that big?
At lunch, I felt someone sit at the table, so I jumped. It was him.
"Jesus... Don't do that...!" I said, laughing.
"Sorry... I tend to jump up on people..." He smirked, "I'm Seth. Sorry, I didn't get to introduce myself this morning."
"It's nice to meet you, Seth. I'm Alex. Thank you again for the notes. I guess if you're traveling for a couple days and miss notes, you can't just take the test another day..."
Seth laughed, "Yeah, it's stupid, isn't it. First, you get a surprise quiz. Second, you get scared half to death at lunch. It's just so hard being you."
I threw my hands up in a joking manner, "Finally, someone understands!" I laughed, "By the way. I could have died."
We sat, talking like that until the bell rang.
