The look in her eyes when I first saw her... I would never forget that fleeting glance. It was right after the implants went down. She was scared. Her face was monotone, as to show any emotion would mean suicide. The government thinks that they have control over us still. And yet, we here we are. Sitting by the dock, watching the birds fly by, and wishing we could fly, like them, to a better place. Me and Alice. I have protected her ever since that day, and she has watched my back in return.

"Such a beautiful sunset, right?" Normally, a voice that isn't mine makes me fear for my life, but Alice was the only person that could calm me down. "Yeah. But it would be better with you beside me", I replied cautiously. We had been dating for a while, and we both knew that the government did not know of our secret hiding place. But the thought of capture... is enough to drive someone insane. I banished the thought from my head as she sat down beside me, and leaned on my shoulder. "I would agree, Tyronne." she whispers as she gazes out at the ocean in front of us.

After the sun went down, Alice was the first to speak. "Tyrone... what if they catch us? They would know that the implants are down!" There was a note of sheer terror in her voice, having lived the hell of the implants once. "Alice, they either know and don't care, or are too stupid to realize the fact. People have been caught and killed because of disobeying, and you can't disobey with an implant in your head." When I mentioned that people have died, Alice tightened her grip on my hand.

"What... if they kill us?" There it was again. That look of paralyzing fear in her eyes. The look that she gave me when she saw the person standing right next to her thrown in the air and dropped back down for talking to another orange clad worker. "And what if they don't? Alice, I've lived without anything for too long. Either we take a few risks, or live like the implants are still active. We can't let them win, and they want us to live in fear." "Okay... I guess you're right." she whimpered, quivering in my arms. "Let's just enjoy this moment while we still can." We sit still for a while, taking in the view.

When suddenly I feel a hand on my side that does not belong to Alice.
