It's been a few days after the raid, brother was busier and spent less and less time with me. It seemed that within those few days, he had met with guild leaders and high ranking hunters. It also seemed like he made friends, a group formed, a group of 7 including my Brother.
" Brother! How are you? It's been a while since we last spoke, 4 months or so."
" Celeste, how are you?" He asked in an almost distant and cold tone.
I flinched, he had never been like this in the past, what happened?
" I'm doing well! It seems that you are quite popular with everyone, i'm proud to have you as a brother!" I said in a cheery voice.
Brother, he flinched and kept silent, why? I'm curious, too curious, I need to ask even if it means I'm impatient.
" Brother...Why do you seem so distant and cold to me? Are you by any chance..embarrassed by me?" I asked quietly, almost mumbling my words. My heart was beating incredibly fast from the anticipation, it felt like it would jump out of my chest.
Brother paused, he looked surprised, but he still kept that cold and distant front. He said after a long pause," Celeste, it seems you know the answer already if that question comes to your mind."
" B-brother, please, give me a straight answer," I said in sadness after realizing what he meant and that I was right. I was desperate for his answer to be," No," but not all things go according to people's hopes.
" I cannot answer that, figure it out yourself," said Brother in a cold tone before walking straight past me without looking back.
My heart, right then and there, shattered in pain. My own brother—didn't acknowledge me anymore—though, even though that was the obvious answer, I was desperate and decided to ignore the possibilities of it being true. To make up for the lost time between my Brother and I, I, who was friendless, spent my time reading books, novels, web-novels, and educating myself in various subjects. 85% of the day was dedicated to reading because the void or rift between us was tearing me apart.
6 years later...
"Hm hm hm~ Mhmm hm~"
" It seems time really does fly, I'm 12 going onto 13 now, it's been 6 years since I arrived into this household." I said out loud to myself, afterall it is quite natural for the lonely to speak to themselves most of the time.
I came to a halt on a page while reading a book labeled The Young Master and his Household. I thought," If only I wielded the powers of this young master and his mind-set, I could have been treated like him. Yet, here I am, the so-called— Stain — of the Sullivan family."
It's been 6 years, yet it seems that my reputation in this family has gotten worse, I have done nothing that has caused trouble. Yet it seems the servants hate me and wish to frame me every chance they get. Not to mention the harassment I get, the eye of the public is also targeting me when an issue pops up. I'm always labeled in a terrible way and over the years, I have barely seen my 11 other siblings, including Brother, Father, and Step-mother. I had heard rumors from the household domestics that our Father, Asher Sullivan, and Step-mother, Kiana Shaer Sullivan, are extremely kind and soft towards their family. I had at first, been filled with sadness and despair, why was I treated like an outcast? Why was I left behind?
Though as time went on, I had forgotten about my family, it had felt like I had a darkness filling the void of where I was supposed to have one. Yet, I for some reason don't feel fury or resentment towards them.
" Jake, get the water ready and cooled, Celeste's teacher is a few minutes away!"
"Ah," I let out, " I feel exhausted today, I won't be able to rest tonight if the teacher is coming here."
My teacher, Hector Barley, is a well known teacher, not as well known as Brother's teacher, but is acceptable. At first, Mr. Barley was kind to me, but after finding out that I possessed no talent for weapons and dungeon raids, I was mistreated.
" Celeste."
" Yes!" I exclaimed happily.
" It seems your teacher will not be here today, instead, your family is here to visit you."
" I see," I said with a smile across my face," please prepare accordingly."
My family, they only visit me once every half a year, they already visited me 3 months ago. What do they need from me? I might as well head to my room and dress well.
30 minutes passed by...
" Welcoming the Sullivan family," I flinched when I heard, instead of happiness I felt a sense of desperation. One voice in the back of my head said, " You must do well, they probably came back because they noticed something in you. You have been acknowledged, you will be treated well." While another voice said," Do not get your hopes up, you will be disappointed and you will really show how pitiful and desperate you are."
I heard a knock right now, " Yes?" I asked.
" Celeste, please head down to the Dining area."
I let out a sigh, I hope my outfit is acceptable. Based on the rumors, my family is well dressed, would I be able to look presentable? And my Stepmother, should I call her mother, Mrs. Sullivan?
" Mr. Celeste has arrived Sir, should I let him in?"
" Yes."
" Announcing the arrival of Mr. Celeste Sullivan," said the aide of my father, cutting off the chatter of my siblings.
I scoffed, how long has it been since my name has been said formally? Although the atmosphere of the place was cold, I could feel it without even being in the room, the anticipation of what they'll say is making me lose my track of thought.
" Huh, I should slow my heart beat down and relax, if i'm uptight it'll seem like I'm uncomfortable." I thought with anticipation.
" Now presenting, Celeste Sullivan."
I took a deep breath as the door opened, what is it that they called me for?
