''why did you leave without me?'' heeseung questioned me as soon as we left the path. i shook my head before replying. ''i thought that was you, he tricked me or something'' he stared at me for a few seconds before shaking his head and looking away.''why, why us'' i stared at him. ''i dont know heeseung, i'm asking the same question'' then a very familiar (and very annoying) bell rang across the yard. we both sped up,not wanting to be late.
since we had the same classes, i didnt have to worry about which class i had to go to next. we were both talking while getting our last books when one of heeseungs friends walked up to us. jake im pretty sure. he spoke english so it was easy to talk to him. he stared at both of us for a few seconds with a confused expression. ''do you know korean?'' i shook my head. i thought he knew that. ''then how do you two understand each other? i was about to point to heeseungs translator when i realized the only things in his hands were books. we just looked into each others eyes, not saying anything.
i then looked at the books in my hands. i had my red maths book, my green geography book, my yellow science book. the halls were beige with a blue trim around the bottom. all the doors were green with yellow badges on the front. i looked back at heeseung and saw his widened eyes staring right back at me. i couldnt get words out of my mouth. i just wanted to run and hide. i had always dreamed of seeing every colour, but it was too bright. and seeing how heeseungs eyes were slightly squinted, i could tell he felt the same thing too. but before he could say anything, i ran.
i almost bumped into ryujin in the hall, but i told her to tell the teacher i would be a bit late to class because i felt sick. she tried to hold onto me, asking question apon question, but i just told her to get to class. i could hear heeseung come after me so i quickened up. i ran into the girls bathroom, hoping he wouldnt check.
i kneeled down and hugged my knees, trying to calm myself down.
was it because of the path? how come i never noticed? why has it gotten so bright all of a sudden? is this what seeing colours is like? if so, id rather not see like this.
then, the door opened with a bang, the handle smashing into the tiles. 'willow, are you in here?' i didnt even breath, it scared me how i knew exactly what he said. 'please, willow, stop running away' i stayed quiet. i heard him sigh and then the door closed. i let out the breath i had been trying to conceal.
then a knock was placed apon the stall door. i let out a gasp. ''willow, i know you're in there, please come out'' he pleaded. i just stayed quiet. he sighed again before speaking. ''willow, i know you are scared, i am too. but i'm almost completely sure this has something to do with the path. before we went, the only way i could talk to you was through a translator and walking through school was dark and boring, now its like a colour bomb. do you think if we fix this, we could go back, or do you even want to go back?''
my mind answered with a yes and a no. i stared at the floor, before standing up and opening the door. as soon as he saw my teary eyes, he opened his arms. i ran to him, letting my tears fall. he was the only one who knew what i was going through, because he was going through it too.
