The day of the test the school day was cut in half for every sixteen year old. The first part of the day Charlie had advanced math with Raven, then there was one last lesson in Faction History with Martin and Jake.

To be honest, despite having wanted the day to come sooner, she was looking more forward to math than the test.

"Are you nervous?" Jake asked. The car had broken down a bit away from school, so they walked the last stretch together.

"Yeah." Charlie admitted. She didn't see a reason to lie to him. "Are you?"

Jake shook his head. "Not really. I'm fairly certain what my result will be. I will admit though, I'm going to miss you."

His words reminded her that pretty much all of Amity knew she was likely to leave. To which faction didn't seem to have sunken in though. An Amity in Dauntless, nooo, of course not! She'll switch for Abnegation or Candor or whatever.

"I'll miss you too."

She would. She really would. Jake had been the one person willing to show her unconditional understanding and support no matter what. He'd been her rock in Amity ever since her dad died.

When the school became fully visible, Jake put his hand on her shoulder. "I hope everything goes well for you."

They separated as soon as they were inside the doors. They'd see each other during Faction History and before the test, then, the next day, they'd see each other one last time during the Choosing Cermony.

Charlie would miss him.

The cafeteria is divided in colors, not because it has to be, but because that's what most consider normal.

The teens from Abnegation, all grey clad and sitting still by their table, not talking or doing anything to draw attention to themselves.
Charlie only briefly glanced at the the table she could see Axel at, but she had the time to see a very animated conversation.
The Erudite teens were all reading or working on something and the Dauntless tables was filled with ruckus and noise and laughter.

At her own table they're quite the number of teenagers, 17, enough to need two tables and some of the floor. Some of the girls are playing a clapping game in a circle on the floor, happy as can be.

Some of the boys are in a conversation about something Charlie hadn't bothered to listen to. Her attention were somewhere else while they waited.

She wanted to go over to the Dauntless table, to roughhouse with her friends and laugh and act as rowdy as they wanted to.

The people taking care of the testing are mostly Abnegation volunteers, but since people can't be tested by members of their own faction, there's one Dauntless member and one Amity member testing the Abnegation teens.

"Charlene Dawes-" The Abnegation man counts up nine more names after her, and they all get up, following the man to the ten testing rooms. Charlie wiped her hands on her dark red dress as a thought crosses her mind.

What if her test results tell her something other than Dauntless?

She's always wanted to go there, ever since she realized that the way of life in Amity wasn't for her. That want grew stronger when she made friends with some Dauntless born kids.
