I know my expectations, I've known them my whole life but the pressure is too much, it always has been.
I have to protect a book that writes everything that happens in this world, it has been passed down through my family for centuries and centuries, the first born child must grow and be trained to become the Page turner otherwise people could steal it and change what is meant to happen.
People from outside the wall look up to me, but how would I know that since I have never spoken to anyone except the maids and my mother. I've been kept in a castle as a protection -although it feels like a prison, the only time I'm let out is to wander the gardens, and even then I feel watched. I'm supposed to be 'the one' just because I was born into this family, yet I don't feel I belong here I've always thought I would be better outside the wall, attending 'normal school' with friends... I've read about those."Pay attention Aria! If you're going to be the page turner you must listen" I watched my mother pace across the dining room. Her wrinkled hands folded across her chest, I knew she was angry.I glared down at the table and took a spoonful of my cereal.
"Aria, it's like you don't understand how much pressure is on us, in only two years you are going to become the page turner, you are going to get married and relocate the book. Why am I even telling you this you already know your expectations." She ranted. " the point is, I have been training you for eleven years-and you aren't even half as disciplined as a five year old!" I exhaled loudly and proceeded eating my cereal, in the corner of my eye I could see her glaring at me. She seemed to give in at the last Minute and joined me in eating breakfast. I studied her chewing a croissant in frustration. She thinks I don't understand, but clearly she doesn't! As a child my mother was allowed out because she had a younger brother who acted as a backup incase something happened to her, so my grandparents weren't as worried about her health because it is apparently better to have a male page turner as they are typically more strong and able to protect the book. I have no backup that's why they watch me like a tiger waiting to catch its prey...if I fall they will leap but in this case it will be to save me not to eat me but that's what they tell me the people outside the wall want to do.After breakfast I made my way to first lesson, I have lessons in the castle to train me into being the best guardian I can be, my first lesson of the day is always magic of the book. I have to learn how the book writes everything, how it has written the past, how it is writing the present and how it will write the future. My second lesson is morals. I learn what to do and when to know if it is right or wrong to write in the book and change people's freewill. My third lesson is protection, I learn to protect the book from those who want to steal it to change the world for evil purposes. After that I have free time, it used to be boring as there is nothing to do-but since a few weeks ago it's gotten better. Whilst my mother has been planning my future I have been planning something too. I'm going to go past the wall.
