"Why do you call me your spring?" The boy asked with big eyes.

"Well-" Taehyung started.

"Wait! I wanna know everything!" The boy smiled and looked at Taehyun hopefully.

"Everything?" Taehyung laughed and the boy nodded. "Okay. For you, my spring, I'll start from the beginning..."

When Taehyun was nine years old, he was playing on the playground by himself while other kids played with each other. His mother was talking to some other parents, laughing and talking about their own children.

When Taehyun was walking up some steps, his legs started giving out. Which surprised him and caused him to fall backwards, hitting his head.

His mother heard the other kids start to scream in terror, so she and the other parents turned around and saw their children crying next to an unconscious Taehyun. Taehyun's mother panicked and rushed him to the hospital.

When she got there, a nurse helped her get Taehyun bandaged up and settled on the bed. She then asked for Taehyun's mother to follow her to the doctor's office. At first, she refused, and she didn't want to leave Taehyun's side, but the nurse assured the crying mother that she will stay and watch her son.

"Hello Mrs. Kang," the doctor directed her to sit.

"Is something wrong?" Mrs. Kang asked, worried. "Is my son okay?? Did the fall do anything to him?"

"No, no, but there is something..." Dr. Shin crossed his fingers together and stared at Mrs. Kang. "I think you should admit your son to the hospital, Mrs. Kang."

"W-What? Why?" She stuttered and her eyes shivered.

"We ran some tests just to check if he was okay from the fall, but we discovered something worse," Dr. Shin moved his screen to show Mrs. Kang what he was talking about. "Your son might lose his ability to walk..."

Taehyun's mother was too shocked to say anything.

Dr. Shin and Mrs. Kang talked a little longer about Taehyun's condition before the doctor let her go back to her son.

Mrs. Kang sat down next to Taehyun's bed and stared at her sleeping son's face. A tear ran down her cheek as she thought about the first time Taehyun crawled, his first steps, and the first time he ran up to hug her.

Then she cried silently, trying her best not to bother the beds next to her.

The other parents in the room noticed this and walked up to hold her hand and pat her back to comfort her.

Eight years passed by and Taehyun basically lived at the hospital. He never went back to school, but he was a really smart kid. His mom brought him books and gave him some work to do just in case he got bored. Within those years, Taehyun transferred from different hospitals, but eventually just ended up staying where he was first admitted to.

He started losing any feeling in his legs about five years ago, so he started physical therapy, but the whole thing ended up being a flop, and he lost complete control of his legs. The doctor had a handmade wheelchair made just for Taehyun. Of course the boy appreciated it, but he felt a bit angry. It was like he was put in a wheelchair because everyone gave up on him. He was pretty sure the doctors had given up, but a part of him felt like there was really nothing else that anyone could do.
