Chapter 14

"So this is interesting" Ranpo said "Mafia method"

"So then this was Dazai. Mori told me about it. Dazai was the one who invented this method of execution for traitors" Fukuzawa told them.

Yosano swallowed. She had always compared herself with Dazai, knowing, they both had a connection to Mori, she hadn't expected Dazai to acctually have been on Moris side, agreeing with him. She had awlways believed Mori had messed her up and so the reason why Dazai was so messed up must also be Mori. But it seemes Mori hadn't been the one to drive him crazy.

Dazai had been like that before he came to Mori, Dazai had willingly killed people in extremly violent and brutal ways, she hadn't. She had been a medical support before he joined the mafia. She had been saved by FUkuzawa and Ranpo. He hadn't,he had been an executive, Moris consultant and his planned successor, he had lived withing the mafia and survived, but most of all he had had to save himself. She had no right to judge what he did, without knowing what options he had had to begin with.

"Three through a broken jaw and three bullets through the chest, two without a heart. God, they're fast, but it seems they got nothing out of them." Yosano commented.

"And brutal, just look at all those markings and injuries. They tortured them in various ways, both finger and toe nails are missin, they have burning marks too, I think there are even traces of acid on their faces, cut of ears and missing fingers and toes." Yosano said, before she lifted thhe shirts of the the corpses up.

"Oh, would you look at that, stabbing, on a non internal basis, no vital points hit, simply pain. Whatever it is they exactly wanted to know, I'm pretty sure these five didn't know, some of these places are pressure points, it must have been unbearble pain, no one could stand that, I've seen and treated a fair share of torture victims, even trained soldiers, none of them had similar marks, wether this was done by Dazai, Sawako or both, whoever it was, is a specialist. With these methods, there will be nearly no one who won't start talking."

"So, what I'm hearing from this is, that these corpses don't tell us anything we don't already know?" Ranpo asked.

"Yes" The president answered.

"Sir Aburaki" fukuzawa turned to the government, before he could voice his question though, the mans phone rang.

"Aburaki" He answered once again.

"Sir Hichiraka" He greeted

"Are you alright?" He asked, after biting his lip and closing his eyes in dread. Then he turned the speaker on

"Yes, I myself am unharmed, I can't say the same for my employees and their families though. I heard they took five of the sirens, is that true?"

"Yes, sadly it is, though I can't imagine, why they would suddenly do this"

"I can, damn! We shouldn't have-"

"language, people are listening" He masked the warning as kritik on his language.

"Who is listening?"

"We hired three agents of the armed detective agency, who are going to settle this matter"

"The armed detective agency?"

"Yes, why?"

"The demon prodigy told me to deliver a message to them"

"A message?" Fukuzawa asked from the back

"Yes, a message" The man on the other side of the phone said.

"What did they say?" Ranpo demanded

"They said, I should tell you to start looking for them in america and that they're looking for two antigifted ability users."

"Did they do anything to you or your employees?" Yosano asked

"They didn't harm me, like I said before, they spoke to me, wanted information about something that didn't even exist, I have no clue, what they wanted, it seemed like an excuse for terrorism though. On their way in, they only took out the security guards, then they offered to leave through the window and not harm anyone else, if I were to tell them what they wanted, but I didn't know what I was supposed to tell them, so they left through the building and killed about one thrid of my staff"

"Why don't you two stop lying to us for a bit." Fukuzawa suddenly said

"Execuse me?" Hideo asked offendedly, though Ranpo could clearly see the rising panic in him.

"I am asking you to stop lying to us. We are aware of a certain mission, in which the red dragon and the demon prodigy were involved. It had something to do with the destruction of Ducado five years ago and both of you and one other government official from america were involved. Don't even trx to question my sources, I have them and I can prove it, if you do not clarify it, I will make use of that prove."

Both officialy were silent for a while. then Hichiraka answered.

"Yes, it was a mission. The city had been causing finacial issues around the entire country, many important officials had their seats there, they were sucking up more money and resources than they produced. So we had them cleared out. But we couldn't find any agents trustworthy enough or capable enough. So we went into contact with the underground. We found two high ranked members of the Ariyoshi clan, one main line, the heir to everything and a side line boy, half brother to the heir and son of the port Mafia boss, Touson Shimazaki."

Financial issues? Many important officials? Seriously? That had been the reason to destroy an entire city with hundreds of thousands innoccents? How dare they? Fukuzawa was angry, but he wouldn't speak on it now, there were more important things to do right now, he'd discuss this over with them afterwards, or perhaps have them arrested.

"Previous mafia boss. Shimazaki has been killed 8 years ago, when you ordered this mission he had already been dead. Whoever leads the mafia now was the one you were discussing with." Fukuzawa informed, Yosano noted how very carefully he went about not mentioning Mori in particular.

"So, the boss of the mafia is not Touson Shimazaki anymore? Then that means we have been looking for the wrong man the past eight years" Hideo sighed. BOth officialy were by now aware, that hiding intel would not get them anywhere.

"Go on with the story, how did you convince two such high standing people to do that?" Ranpo asked,impatiently, sometimes people in power could be such selfish people, how dare they make a decision over so many lives.

"it acctually wasn't that hard. We originally only asked the ARiyoshi and the mafia if they had people capable of that. They asked us what we were planing, we told them and so the next day, those two were there, claiming they would do it without asking why. They did it, because of their interest in killing. It wasn't a destruction with fire, each civilian, innocen or not has been killed by their hands one by one, the fire simpl removed the evidence"
