I narrowed my eyes as I tried to keep control. It was a room of heavy smells. Dying perfumes, colognes and sweat, the sweat being the most tolerable out of all these scents. Then the flavour of blood came up my nostrils, dizzying me from my stance. There were too many humans here. So many. I have never seen so many in my life before. And they just walked around. Practically revealing their necks and heating their blood for me from the exercise of dance.
I resisted the urge to open my mouth and lick my lips.
Thousands of eyes watched me as I came up to the center of the grand staircase. The expression on their faces, strange. It was like they had seen a ghost, a shocking sight. I held my place as the announcer bellowed my name and rank, scanning over the sea of faces, and they all stuck on me like glue.
There was nothing wrong with my attire I think. I was wearing a shimmering white dress with small wings on my back to feign innocence. I was the pure, perfect daughter of the king, my image was incredibly important. I think there were butterflies pinned onto my hair, but it was hard to say for certain.
Without taking a breath to calm my nerves, I simply carried on, despite the people's gazes still following me as I moved down the carpeted staircase.
Don't fall, don't fall, don't fall.
My neck was straight and my eyes forward as I moved down the steps blindly. I held my hands down at my stomach and fluttered my eyes high and low as I avoided eye contact.
The music carried on, now in a string instrument. I searched for my father, but all I found was the glowing lights of the crystal chandeliers shining in my eyes. There were windows here. Windows. Father had never let me see them in real life. Every glass pane in our castle was blackened with thick drapes.
I understood sunlight hurt, but not the sun-night.
The sky had blackened itself. Someone had spooned out the sun and left an empty pale hole in it's wake. I had no idea that happened. Did father do it?
"Your Majesty," A voice hummed.
I promptly turned around to see it and was met with a servant holding his hand out.
"This way, please."
I refused his hand and waited to follow. After understanding, he led me over to a quiet hall that held it's own door to another floor and a new staircase.
The servant clicked open the door after unlocking it and opened the door once he slipped the key in his sleeve.
I repositioned myself as he leisurely opened it, smelling at least thirteen vampires behind it. They would be revealed to a perfect picture of a princess.
