It's warm.
I pouted my lips and shuffled in my bed. Incredibly warm.
With a groan, I stretched upwards and opened my eyes.
Gabriel.
He was attached to my thighs, with a soft smile on his face as he held me down.
I have never woken up and been warm before. Usually I was just cold like my flesh. It was a strange sensation. Like fire burning throughout my body. I looked at my skin. The blood I had drank swelled down and I was less bloated. It was sitting in my veins happily. Something about this felt very human. I felt human.
I'm not a huge fan of having someone strapped to me, but if I'm using him for something I suppose it's okay. I stayed in place, wondering how long I would be here until he woke up.
There was a stomping down the hall. No ordinary ears could hear it, but I did not have regular ears. My eyes shot up. It must have been Hilda or a maid or someone, but they were coming to my room right now and they moved fast.
"Gabriel." I shook his shoulders and he frowned. "Gabriel. Wake up."
He buried his face down into the comforter.
I tapped on his shoulder blade.
"Someone's coming. You have to get up right now." I hissed. But he only clutched my leg tighter.
My heart practically leapt out of my chest as the door swung open.
Within a flash, I threw a blanket over myself and Gabriel and blinked as if I had just awoken.
Harriet stared at me from the door.
"Still asleep?" She murmured. "At this time of day? It's six in the evening."
I rubbed my eyes, feigning tiredness.
"It was a hard day yesterday."
"But still. Six in the evening." She came into the room and pulled in her cart. Harriet mainly managed cloths and bedwear. But she offered conversation as if she were my own governess. She was much more friendly and approachable than Hilda. I wish she was my governess.
"How did it go with Stewart yesterday?" She smiled downwardly as she pulled out a few towels for my bathroom.
I fiddled with the end of my blanket. "Fine. I guess." I mumbled.
"Fine?"
A hand appeared on my stomach. I looked down to see a very awake Gabriel. He stared at me with wide eyes. His face was still heavy with sleep and his cheeks were a splotchy pink. I wanted to embrace him and to cuddle until we both were content. It was so strange. I did not know why I desired it.
"Just fine. He's a very nice man like you said. I wouldn't mind his company again."
A squeal came from Harriet, but when I looked at her, she had hidden it.
"I knew you would like him. I just knew it." She travelled the room as she moved towels into a drawer. "I have a good feeling about that man. A very good one indeed."
I drew my mouth into a thin line. Maybe she should be the one marrying him. She seems to like him well enough. I pushed air out my nose.
"Do you think you could love him?"
