The renovations were well underway now. Krory couldn't take the noise of all the hammering, sawing and yelling. Lavi had been talking to the silent man every night once the workers left. Today, he made a bold suggestion. Krory had come down to sit with Allen, Lavi and Kanda in the kitchen.
"Lets go out, get away from this noise." Lavi suggested. Allen glanced up to Krory. He knew the guy hadn't left the house in five years.
"You can drive?" Krory asked Allen. The white head shook no. He swallowed his bite of pancakes.
"No, I never got my license." He told the larger man.
"I can!" Lavi cried. "Or Yu, can..."
"Don't call me that." Kanda growled.
"It's you're name, duh!" Lavi joked back. The sword zinged as it was ripped from its sheath. The shinny steel point was under the ginger's chin in the blink of an eye. Lavi's one good eye rolled.
"Seriously, someone needs to get laid!" He muttered. The one emerald eye met icy blues.
"Is that you're problem? Hit a dry spell?" Kanda tsked.
"Fuck you!" Lavi hissed. Kanda withdrew the sword.
"You wish I'd let you. How long have you been panting after me you horny ass rabbit?" Kanda asked bored as he went back to his breakfast. Lavi folded his arms over his chest as he glared down at the bent head.
"I would like to go for a drive, or something." Krory spoke into the icy silence.
"Well, alright. We can leave pissy Kanda with his sword...."
"Not a chance!" Kanda stated. He stood up to collect the dirty plates. He took them to the sink where Allen and him washed, dried and put them away. Krory took them to the garage where he still had one car. It was an old hearse he liked to ride around in.
"I am not driving that!" Kanda insisted.
"Yay, I will!" Lavi snatched the keys from the long pale thin fingers of their host. Krory got into the front beside Lavi. Allen went to go to the back door, Kanda caught his arm.
"Ride with me." He pulled the shorter boy over to his bike. Allen happily hopped on the back. He liked riding around with Kanda. They pulled out. Lavi turning one way, Kanda went the other. Allen frowned. Had he missed something?
Kanda didn't say anything as they drove along. Allen looked out at the town. Since he didn't drive he hardly went far from the mission. He didn't even know what road they were on. Trees lined either side of the two line street. Allen saw some deer near a creek, squirrels playing in the trees and birds looking like music notes on the electrical lines above them.
It wasn't long before the road opened up. On one side there were many buildings that all had the same brick pattern, large parking lots separated them. Kanda turned into a drive. Allen glanced up to read the sign.
Black Order university. It sounded ominous. Allen looked around as Kanda drove through the parking lots, following the curving drive. Students milled about. Some sat under trees, other walked in pairs or small groups. They looked happy.
Kanda pulled the bike to a stop in a parking space. "What are we doing here?" Allen asked as he got off of the back. He watched Kanda slip off. "I thought we were following Krory and Lavi." Allen continued when Kanda hadn't spoken.
"Something you said the other night pissed me off." Kanda turned to walk up to the sidewalk.
"What?" Allen asked scurrying to catch up.
"That you didn't care if you were alive or not." Kanda sneered down at him. He cut him off before he could say anything. "If your life has no purpose, then find it one." He told his companion.
