We make the long trek to Hammerlocke, and then to Stow-on-Side. By the time we make it, everyone except Mudsdale sags with exhaustion. Oddish gave up a few hours ago, and hopped on Mudsdale's back. I make a beeline for a market stall, and buy water for everyone.
"Drink up. That was one heck of a walk." Everyone drinks deeply. Once we rest, I look up at the sun.
"Still have a few hours of daylight left. We can go challenge the Gym now." Vulpix glares at me.
"Pix!" I put my hands up.
"Fine! Fine. We can wait until tomorrow." We find lodging at a hotel, and immediately fall asleep. The next morning, we eat, and then book it to the Gym. I freeze as soon as we make it to the Gym Mission.
"What the.." A man stops me and explains the Mission.
"You turn the wheel to change the direction of the ride. Your goal is to get to the end to challenge Bea." I nod.
"Okay." I hop in, and all my Pokémon pile into the car after me. It starts moving, and I spin the wheel as fast as I can. I laugh.
"This is so much fun!" I nearly make it to the end before a massive fists punches my car. My hip slams into the side.
"Ow!" I turn the wheel again, trying to get it moving in the right direction again. I look to the side in time to see Lucario beginning to retch from dizziness. Panic wells within me.
"Nope!" I fish out his Pokéball, and call him in before he can vomit. I let out a sigh of relief.
"That was a close one." I call everyone else into their balls, stowing them away in my bag. By the time I finish, I can barely stay on my feet. I try to walk straight, but end up hobbling diagonally.
"Hff." I shake my head, trying to regain my sense of balance. When I compose myself, I head into the tunnel. I close my eyes.
"Bea uses Fighting Types. It would be wise to use Flying Types, Psychic Types, and Fairy Types." I sigh.
"Unfortunately, I don't have any of those." I smile.
"Vulpix knows a Psychic Type move, and Oddish knows a Fairy Type move. Maybe we aren't doomed to lose." I walk out onto the pitch, meeting Bea on the battle field. Bea shoots me a fierce look.
"I've been looking forward to this battle, Sapphire Ketchum. I battled Ash a while ago, and he proved to be a worthy adversary. I have high standards for you, so I hope you won't disappoint." I widen my stance.
"Don't worry. I won't." Bea sends out her first Pokémon.
"Let's send her flying! Go Hitmontop!" Hitmontop materializes on the field, swishing from left to right. I think for a few seconds. Finally, I make my decision.
"Let's go!" Oddish appears on the field, squeaking happily. I hear laughter rising from the audience. Even Bea looks slightly amused. I smirk, whispering under my breath.
"You guys keep underestimating me." I wait for Bea to make the first move. She happily complies.
"Use Quick Attack!" I wait for Hitmontop to get in close.
"Hold a second.." When it's only a foot away, I make my demand.
"Razor Leaf!" Leaves whip from Oddish's stem, slicing Hitmontop with their razor sharp edges and halting the attack. I take advantage.
"Use Dazzling Gleam!" Bea shouts.
"Quick Attack again!" Hitmontop glows with white light before moving so fast that it completely vanishes. Oddish's Dazzling Gleam misses. I look around, trying to find Bea's Pokémon. I turn my attention on the ground.
