Eternatus

Rose and I take a Flying Taxi to Hammerlocke. Rose hums, seemingly amused. Irritation courses through me.

"Why would you hurt Eternatus?" His gaze grows distant.

"Because Eternatus contained the energy I needed to make sure that Galar continues to prosper." His eyes flash.

"Now, you are the holder of that power." Unease creeps through my veins.

"Then what are you still doing with Eternatus?" He drums his fingers on his leg.

"Eternatus still contains a small amount of Dynamax energy. Every cell that makes up Eternatus is made completely of Dynamax power." My eyes widen.

"So Eternatus's genetic makeup is just pure energy?" He nods.

"Smart girl. If Eternatus transferred every bit of power to you, then it would simply disappear. Seems it hung onto just enough to keep existing." Complicated emotions flicker within me. If Eternatus didn't give up that energy, then I wouldn't exist. Can I save it? Can I transfer enough power to it so it doesn't have to rely on machines to live?

We make our descent into Hammerlocke and quickly head to the lab. Rose shows me to where Eternatus's cage is. Fear makes my pulse race, but I force myself to push ahead.

"Go ahead and release it." Rose nods and presses a button. The cage opens, giving me a glimpse of the creature that created me. Tears pool in my eyes as I gaze at it.

"Eternatus.." I shuffle forward hesitantly, a little scared to get close. I pull Lucario and Mudsdale's Pokéballs out of my pocket. I toss them on the floor, and my Pokémon materialize in front of me. Lucario grabs my wrist, pulling me back.

"Cario." I gently pry myself out of his grip.

"I'll be fine. Just watch my back." Mudsdale whinnies nervously.

"Mud." I close my eyes, focusing on the power the dragon in front of me gave me.

"I'm gonna help you." I glance over my shoulder and see that Rose has left the room. Eternatus glares at me, and I nearly crumple to the floor. White hot pain assaults me along with a bone aching sadness. I bite my lip.

"Is this what you've been feeling?" Eternatus growls, pain laced in the sound. My hands glow a brighter red than I've ever managed before.

"Please don't hurt me. I want to help you feel better." I stop just inches in front of the dragon that could easily kill me. I place my hands on each side of its head, closing my eyes. I begin to channel my magic into it. The backs of my eyelids glow white as Eternatus begins emitting a fierce light. I feel my power beginning to drain from my body. Suddenly, a voice rings through my head.

That's enough, child.

I open my eyes, staring right into Eternatus's gaze. The voice speaks again.

Chairman Rose makes big promises that he has no intentions of keeping.

My eyes widen.

What are you saying?

The voice answers.

I created you to stop the Darkest Day that he wants to bring about. I made you so that he couldn't take the energy from me to bring his dream to fruition. I'm sorry he found you, young one.

I shake my head.

What's he going to do to me?

Eternatus seems to sigh.

I've doomed you to a hero's fate just by bringing you into existence. Make up for my mistake and stop him.

Eternatus glows a blazing Dynamax red that fills the room. The voice enters my mind once more.
