Being depressed is not a joke and should not be taking lightly. For 16 year old Jaden Hossler being depressed means being isolated. However he can't be alone when he has two little sisters who love him more than anything and parents who are constantly fighting. So how does Jaden escape reality without leaving it?

TW: self harm, suicidal thoughts
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm home," Jaden says as he walks through the front door, setting his backpack in the mud room and starts heading to the kitchen. However, he didn't make it too far because soon enough he feels hands on his lower leg
"BUBBA," yelled Addy, Jaden's 7 year old sister. "Shh, inside voices," suggested Jaden as he picked her up and continued his route to the kitchen. "Where's Macy?" asked Jaden. "Right here bubba," smiled Macy, Jaden's 12 year old sister. "Hi sweetheart, how was your day?" he asked as he set Addy down the counter. "It was good, I got a B on my math test," Macy was never good at math or school in general, so a B was amazing.
"That's great Macy, where's mommy and daddy?" "They at therapy," said Addy as she swung her legs back and forth. "Good they need it," Jaden commented more so to himself then anyone else. Macy didn't hear it as she was walking back to her room. Addy, however did hear it and she was not a happy camper.
"BUBBA, THAT IS NOT NICE'" she screamed as she hit Jaden, right on his wrist, which hurt for reasons.....
"Addison Grace Hossler, you do not hit," commented Jaden as he pointed at his sister.
"You were being rude to mommy and daddy," shouted Addy.
"No I wasn't," Jaden said calmly, "I was saying that therapy is good for them." "Oh" "Yeah oh, but you know better to hit so I have to put you in timeout," Jaden said as he picked her up and brought her to the corner. " No bubba I sorry," Addy tried, "I'm a big girl and big girls don't go to timeout." Addy started squirming in Jaden's grip. "Well big girls also don't hit, so maybe you're not as big as you think," Jaden said simply as he set her in the corner. Addy meekly tried one more time with tears in her eyes,"bubba..." "Addy I love you, but you know better. 7 minutes in timeout and then homework okay?" Jaden said as he turned around to set the timer.
"Okay bubba," was all you heard from Addy before she started bawling.
Macy soon came running down the hall way asking "Is everything okay?!" Jaden looked at her and said, "Yeah, everything is fine, little one here decided to hit me so she's in timeout" "I said I was sorry," shouted the child. Jaden walked over to her and made eye contact with her and said seriously, "One, no one is screaming so there is no need, two in timeout, are you supposed to be talking?" "No bubba," Addy says with a sigh. "Okay then, no more. And I'm sorry Macy we distracted you," Jaden said looking up at his older, younger sister.
"Oh it's okay, it just sounded like she was screaming blooding murder. Anyway back to homework I go."And with that Macy was back to her room to try to figure out her homework.
Not too long after that, the timer went off and after Addy had apologized, she was sent to do her homework. Jaden was about to walk to the living room but he soon heard voices come from the garage door.
"Well that's just not what happened," Amy said as she walked in the door. "News flash Amy, not everything you say is right," John said a little too loud. Jaden walked into the kitchen to meet his parents and said, "Hi guys, um just to let you know, the girls are doing their homework in their rooms. And I'll be in mine if you need anything." "Oh honey what would we do without you." Amy said as her son walked to his own room.
What would his parents do without him? What would his sisters do without him? Would they be better off if he just died?
These are things that Jaden constantly thought of. And it was up to him to decide if it would be worth it. Most of the time he was confident in his answer. However, on some days, he regretted still being here.
Which is why he self harmed, yet some of them were really bad and if he didn't want any one knowing, he had to let them heal.
So instead, when Jaden walked into his room, he grabbed his airpods, connected them to his phone, and blasted MGK and Juice Wrld.
Those people were his safe place and his way to escape reality for a little.
Being depressed can come with some really scary thoughts, luckily for Jaden, he had people there every day to remind him that he is needed. No matter how hard things get he can't leave because he has his sisters who love him more than anything. And parents who are struggling with there own issues and need someone to help out.
Jaden made his decision a long time ago, that no matter how much he wants to, he can't end it. Not until he's not needed anymore. Which is further away then he thought.
