"Oh, I'm so proud of you!"
Tachibana Eiko's arms hung limply at her sides as her mother hugged her tightly in front of the gates of UA.
"I'm so happy that my daughter decided to follow in her mother's footsteps!" Hashimoto Amaterasu, the girl's mother as well as a top-ranking pro-hero, exclaimed, completely ignoring the dull look in Eiko's eyes and the false smile that was a constant on the younger girl's face. Amaterasu looked absolutely gleeful as she played the role of a doting mother.
Eiko hated it.
Tachibana Eiko's quirk is commonly known as Regen to the public.
Simply put, she heals faster than the average person.
It was a perfectly ordinary quirk, one that had been seen many times before. Though, it was admittedly noted to be a bit stronger than the average person with the Regen quirk.
To be perfectly honest, 'a bit' was a complete understatement.
Unknown to everybody but Eiko, her family, and a few others, Eiko's quirk was more than just your average regeneration quirk. Injuries meant absolutely nothing to her. She could get her arm lopped off, and it would grow back within a matter of seconds. More than that, however, she could be decapitated or have her heart ripped out of her chest, and she'd be perfectly fine.
She was essentially immortal.
And her mother hated that.
She believed Eiko's quirk to be an affront to God and everything he'd created.
And so she hid her own daughter away from the public's eye. She came up with some bullshit to put on the girl's quirk registry, and she essentially put Eiko on house arrest. She had to switch over to homeschooling, and Eiko had been forbidden from seeing any of her friends ever again. She was forced to listen to everything her mother said because God forbid the consequences if she didn't.
To Hashimoto Amaterasu, her daughter died the day she received her quirk, and in her place, a new pawn that was simply using the form of Tachibana Eiko was born.
"I hope you remember what you're here for," Amaterasu murmured in Eiko's ear before releasing her.
"Of course, mother," Eiko smiled in faux reassurance, her tone soft and quiet.
Of course she remembered. How could she forget?
For the first time in nearly ten years, she was finally being allowed to attend a real school. Under normal circumstances, this probably would have greatly pleased Eiko, even if she had shut off a majority of her emotions over the years for the sake of her own sanity. However, the circumstances for which Amaterasu had enrolled and recommended Eiko into UA were anything but normal.
About eight years prior, Amaterasu had met a man known as All for One. The man had been extremely interested in Eiko's quirk and had been even more so after discovering that the quirk could not be stolen. Amaterasu wasn't sure how All for One had found out about Eiko, and after the man had told her that he could take away Eiko's quirk, and therefore Eiko's life, she, quite frankly, didn't really care.
She jumped at the chance and began working under the man. Amaterasu had honestly been surprised at how much she grew to enjoy working under All for One. For the first time in her life, she was finally able to punish sinners with no laws limiting her actions. It was a liberating and exhilarating feeling for her. The only condition she had to deal with was providing All for One with Eiko for experimentation, and she did so without hesitation.
Unfortunately for All for One, the experiments had yet to garner any results even after eight years.
And so, when Eiko reached her fifteenth year of life, they came up with a new purpose for the girl's existence.
