------{ 1st September 1971 }------

The train compartment went silent for the first time since the three boys had clambered on over an hour ago. I looked up from my book, expecting... well, I don't know what I as expecting. James was staring out of the glass door at the three girls sat in the compartment across from ours.

One girl (I'd ran into her before and knew her to be Marlene McKinnon) had blonde hair in a braid, the girl next to her was coloured with tight braids with all kinds of rings and beads and stuff (I think so anyways, because the second I looked at her she moved out of view) and the final girl sat across from them. She had long ginger hair which flowed down her back and over the bottom of the seat.

"Something caught your eye Potter?" Sirius said with a laugh.

"That girl, the ginger one. Something about her-"

"Oh Godric, he's at it again." Peter moaned, facepalming.

"This is different Peter. She's different." he said like anyone had any idea what he was on about. Though I suppose Peter did because he just let out a deep sigh.

"Oi, loverboy. If you think she's so amazing, go introduce yourself." Sirius said. He was laughing so I assumed he was joking; James, on the other hand, stood up with a determined look on his face, opening the door then walking into their compartment.

The three of us couldn't hear what they were talking about but the girls didn't seem to bothered. Especially the ginger who seemed to be eyeing up James.

"This could go well." I muttered and the boys chuckled in agreement.

After a few minutes, James turned around with a smile, gave a discreet thumbs up to us and came back, sitting beside Peter.

"She's called Lily Evans. She's in our year!" he squealed like an overexcited 10 year old. Which I suppose he was. Sirius began to cheer loudly and I was bored of pretending to read so I joined in, and so did measly little Peter. James blushed a furious red and hissed at the three of us to shut up.

The train ride was exhausting, I had to actually socialise because I'd left my reading thingy at home. I have trouble reading sometimes, but I realised - by accident, to be honest - that it's easier to read on green paper. A worker at the boys home got me those clear plastic thingys but in green and ever since, I've used that to help me concentrate on the words and stop them running around the page. But of course, the day I head off to boarding school, I forget to bring the one thing I need to pass my exams.

But it's whatever, I guess.

The train finally came into a stop and thousands of kids came rushing towards the... well, whatever the fuck they were rushing towards. All the first years were starstruck, including me, and so we kind of huddled around. There was a thin man, he was beginning to bald and he had a mean look on him. A small kitten ran circles around his feet as he shouted "Firs' years over 'ere, firs' years over 'ere!"

We all headed towards the man and once everyone - in their black robes, shivering in the cold september weather - had gathered around, he began to talk. It was boring mostly, there were a few rules that made me wonder who's blasted a hole in the roof of the castle, turned half of the seventh years into barnyard animals or managed to get every teacher with muggle bang-snaps but otherwise, boring.
