My shift had come to an end without any mishaps and I was feeling good about my work...
Until I walked back into the diner after taking the garbage out to find Helen and her group of friends sitting in a booth. The last person I wanted to see today was Helen. The cherry on top of my shitty week.
She tripped me which caused my body to ache even more than it already had. My poor body couldn't seem to catch a break. First, I am brutally raped in the middle of the night, forced to work two days later, giving me barely enough time to recover physically and emotionally, then I come face to face with the girl who hated me more than anything.
I was tired. And all I wanted was to go home and rest.
Dad was expecting me back for lunch, as my shift today was only from five in the morning to one in the afternoon. He offered to pick me up but we needed to cut down on using his crappy truck to save gas money. Even if the thought of having to walk the same trail I was violated on alone made my skin crawl and the urge to vomit up what little I ate today grow strong.
I limped down the smaller dirt road that served as a shortcut to the town square, becoming acutely aware as the trees began to grow around me, isolating me from the town until I couldn't see any buildings, only trees. I keep telling myself as I walk that I will be able to see the town soon enough and not think about how alone and vulnerable I was on the little pathway.
I hear footsteps behind me and I almost collapse. I try not to panic as I subtly glance behind me, catching the slightest glimpse of a tall man following me. My heart jumps into my throat, blood pounding in my ears as I increase my pace.
Was it him?
Was it the man who raped me? Had he come back to finish the job? Would he pin me down and bruise me again? I wouldn't be able to handle the pain so soon. Not after what he did the first time.
I contemplate screaming, making a scene as the town square finally comes into view. People were at various farmstands, selling and buying fresh fruits and vegetables as they often did on Saturdays. Would they help me if I cried out for them? Probably not.
Tears well up in my eyes, the path in front of me blurring so badly that I can't watch where I'm going and trip over a rock. That moment of me losing my bearings allows me to hear rushed footsteps coming right at me.
This is it, I am going to get dragged back into the woods and,-
"Uhm, excuse me?"
I turn to look behind me, noticing that the man is so close to me that if he reached out he could grab me. I take a few steps away from him, my eyes never leaving him as I move.
"You ah, dropped this back at the diner," He points over his shoulder in the direction of the diner. I reach into my back pocket, only now realizing the absence of my wallet.
Now that he was closer, I could see that he was around my age. His hair was a striking blonde, eyes a bright shade of blue. He was tall, and lean though he had muscles. My eyes focus on his hands which were smooth and slender. The man who attacked me had meaty, calloused hands.
