Felix

It was finally Saturday, the day I planned to sneak away to Willow Village and spend the day with my friends. My body was buzzing with an all-too-familiar feeling of excitement at the thought of spending my day with people who appreciated my company. Friends who didn't scorn me for being born a deer shifter.

It was almost tradition at this point to meet for lunch on the weekends whenever I could sneak away. On Saturdays, the diner always made apple pies with a side of homemade vanilla ice cream. I could almost taste the creamy goodness on my tongue as I tug my favorite sage green sweatshirt over my head.

I  could feel the excitement of my shifter spirit inside of me, his presence sending bursts of warmth through my body. I'd never felt my spirit this restless before. His buzzing energy has me shivering with anticipation.

Today was going to be different, I could feel it. As stealthy as ever, I make my way out of pack grounds, and into no-man's land. I trek through the woods carefully, hyperaware of every sound and subtle movement in the foliage. I made sure to bring a small dagger, as Mama Harper requested of me. It was the least I could do since he was turning a blind eye to me sneaking away to the human village.

It doesn't take long for me to come across the village, walking along the dirt path as if I belonged there. As if I'd been living here my whole life. In a sense, I had, only deep in the woods behind the village.

I walk up to our usual meeting spot, almost immediately spotting Helen and Bria among the people that gathered in the town square.

"Felix," Helen squeals, launching herself at me. I catch her with ease, laughing as she holds tightly to me. "I'm so happy you could make it today! We all miss you so much when you leave!"

"I miss you too, I wish I could visit more often," I say, flashing Bria a smile as she approaches us.

"We're just waiting on Eugine and Luca. Sebastion isn't coming today, he couldn't get out of work," Bria explains, hiking her baby blue purse higher up on her shoulder. "We're just gonna meet them at the entrance so we should head over now. I'll send them a text so they go to the diner instead of walking all the way over here."

"Sounds good to me. Lead the way."

I walk in silence, for the most part, letting Bria and Helen talk and gossip about anything and everything. Mostly Helen, as Bria was a little more reserved in what she said. Helen loved to talk about herself, as I'd come to learn since we began our friendship. But I didn't mind, as I relished the fact that I even had friends in the first place.

It isn't long before we come across the familiar old-school diner, Eugine, and Luca standing near the entrance. Despite the cold weather, Eugine's hair and face had a thin sheen of sweat. He wore his football jersey along with a long-sleeved shirt underneath, even though football season had been over for a little over three weeks now.

Luca, however, looked to be in much better condition than the large, sweating man next to him. His hair was done back into small, evenly spaced braids, wearing a light gray hoodie and black jeans. He smiles when he sees me, raising a hand in a quiet greeting. Next to him, Eugine hollers, making a few people close to him cringe.
