꧁....................꧂
I sit in our usual spot, on that rickety old bench underneath the shade of the youthful oak tree. I kick my feet back and forth with my favorite book in my grasp looking up ever so often to see if you were anywhere near.
In the background the sound of a band playing Until I found You by Stephen Sanchez. The song fit our relationship perfectly, before we met we were both in a dark place not thinking we'd ever find love like the kind we have.
I look up from my book once more, finally catching you approaching me. You looked so handsome, your dark brown hair gelled nicely to the side, your bright hazel eyes piercing mine, your bright smile between your plump lips giving me butterflies.
Before you, love was non existent; I didn't believe in it. There was no way a person could love another so strongly, well that is what I believed before I found you.
You brought this light into my life, one I pray never goes out.
You take a seat next to me, placing your arm on the back of the bench we sit on. You smile your bright beautiful smile at me, causing me to smile back. You smelt so refreshing like citrus with a mix of smoke, like that of a campfire.
I could never get tired of your smell, your smell for me is home.
If I'm honest I don't know what I am to you, you don't say often. I know I mean something though, because if not you would have left a long while ago.
I turn my attention back to my book as you look out at the park ahead. I get sucked back into my story still enjoying the sensation of you sitting there with me.
The noise of the park flooding the space around us, the birds songs, the cry's of laughter from children, the band playing beautiful music, the mumbles of peoples conversations as they walk by, but no sound was more important to me than your voice.
I'm pulled out of my trance when I realize you are no longer beside me. I look away from my book and when my eyes adjust I see you..... on one knee with a tiny velvet blue box resting at the tips of your fingers.
You look at me for a moment trying to find the words to say. You were nervous, which is to be expected.
It was almost as if the world around us had gone silent, because suddenly the sound of playful children subsided, the band was more quiet, the conversation of people had ended. All I could hear was what you asked me.
"Will you do me the honor of marrying me?"
I spit out millions of yeses, tears welling in my eyes as I realize you will be my forever. I jump into your arms, hugging and kissing you like a crazed person.
The sound of clapping surrounding us, children cheering, the band playing again just louder now.
This day felt like a dream....
Which it is now, because at this moment I stand by your casket in all black. My tear stained face, tired eyes, and sleepless body fighting reality laying in front of me.
