Dominic

Dominic almost jumped out of the bed that morning while whispering 'no'. His chest was heaving and for a short moment he didn't even know where he was. He looked around and realized that it was still pitch black outside, with heavy rain and, probably the reason why he woke up with a startle, thunder. It was as if the world was going to collapse on his shoulders. He wiped the sweat from his neck and he took off his T-shirt. Then he lay back down and covered himself up to his neck with a light blanket that was pushed towards the middle of his bed. He was still not ready to admit that it was getting cold, so cold, in fact, that a significant amount of snow was a real possibility. He wasn't particularly fond of winters. He preferred the crispness of autumn mornings or early spring, but not so much the constant gloom of winter, although he could somewhat appreciate the beautifully arranged shops, but that pleasure never lasted long. Sometimes he felt like those moments in winter were too happy for his heart to handle. Thus, none of that was enough to motivate him to get up from his comfortable bed and start getting ready for work. Besides, he surely had a bit more time to try and pull himself together, because his alarm clock didn't go off yet. He rubbed his face with the palm of his hand and looked at the ceiling through the darkness, contemplating the direction that his life was headed. He ran it through his mind over and over again, and he felt his face getting gloomier and gloomier with each new memory.

If anyone asked Dominic if he was happy with his life just a year or two ago, he would have given them a resounding yes. In fact was abolutely blissfull in the life that he'd created, and it was visible all over his face, even when he wasn't talking about it out loud. He had a luxurious home in Highgate which he'd shared with his wife, Kayla. It was a quiet neighborhood, and he insisted on buying a home there due to the busyness of the dead center of London, where his office was located. He found that it provided him with more stability and life balance. Kayla wasn't all too keen on that idea because she felt that Highgate area was too quiet at times, but that complaint stopped the moment he bought her the newest Audi A8. She was grateful to him, telling him that he was going to spoil her rotten as she took the car keys and went out with her friends immediately. The fact that it was one of the most expensive London residential areas was an added bonus. Dominic was aware at the time that her feelings for him were slowly starting to change so he was a little sad that she didn't want to spend more time with him, but he learned to be ok with it. At least in front of others, that is. Inside, he was seething.

Both him and Kayla had lucrative jobs, Kayla was in PR and Dominic owned his own small but respectable publishing agency, InfiDom. They both knew how to work things out to their advantage, and they had their way with money and finding ways of multiplying it with ease. They had more money than an average couple which enabled both of them to enjoy in whatever activity they want, and Dominic made sure to never forget that and to be grateful for it, because there was a time in his childhood where the situation was just the opposite. He believed that money needed to go around in order to come back to him in other ways, so he always strived to help others less fortunate. That was what motivated him in everything he'd done. He believed that Kayla was doing the same thing in her own capacity, although as of recently he couldn't be sure about anything that concerned his wife, and that made him sad.

He whined and stretched as he looked at his alarm clock. It wasn't even 6 a.m, and he was already wide awake. Did he even sleep? He couldn't tell. If he did, it was for no more than three hours, because he recalled tossing and turning in his bed, wondering if Kayla would have finally join him. That didn't happen, and he was almost desperate for a cuddle. He considered trying to fall asleep a little longer, but he had no time for that. Today was going to be a very long day because he had a round of job interviews, and unfortunately that was the one thing that he couldn't leave up to his assistant and long-time friend Michelle. In whole honesty, there was nothing that Dominic hated more than sitting at his office and asking all the same questions over and over again, trying to find the perfect candidate in a very short span of minutes. As if that could show him what the person really is like. That told him nothing. Also, he hated having interviews with new people, because it meant that some of his employees weren't doing what they were supposed to do.
