Fire

I groaned in frustration as I shut my laptop. I had just finished watching a recent interview of my sisters' where she was constantly asked about the scandal of my marriage.

It had been two weeks since the news released and the fire that it had caused wasn't extinguishing. The other day, I took Noor to dinner but I got held up at work so I decided to meet her there directly.

That fuelled the fire further because people started to claim we were unhappy and separated just because we arrived in separate cars.

Tonight, Noor and I were supposed to go to dinner again and to avoid such news again, I requested she arrive at my office first.

I heard a knock on the door and smiled when my beautiful wife entered. "I can't believe I have never seen your office before" I watched her look around. "It's not much" I said.

She walked over to me and gave a kiss, "You look handsome" I gave her a 'I know' look and she smacked my chest lightly. "Come on let's go" I held her hand and led her out the building.

When we arrived, there were already a few cameras there. I wanted Noor to hold my hand but I realised recently that unless I do it, she wouldn't. I didn't want any new scandals so I placed my hand on her back as we entered the restaurant.

"Why don't you ever hold my hand on your own?" I asked as I lay in her lap on our bed. "What?" She asked softly. "Every time we are with someone else you create a distance between us, why?"

Her fingers stopped playing with my hair. "No reason I guess you're just overthinking it" I scoffed and got off her. "Are you angry?"

I didn't look at her, "My wife doesn't want to be near me in front of others, no of course I'm not mad" I didn't hear her response so I just grabbed the blanket and pulled it over me.

I felt her hug me from the back, "I just don't feel comfortable with PDA especially when so many cameras are around us" She mumbled softly into my back.

I sighed and turned around to face her, "Baby it's just me...you don't have to worry about anything" She nodded. I placed a soft kiss on her forehead and she smiled.

Her smile immediately faded and she jerked up. She sat on the bed holding her chest. "What's wrong?!" I hurried to her but she got out bed and ran into the bathroom.

"Noor?" I called out but all I heard were vomiting noises. I got out of bed with concern and ran after her. I held her hair back for her.

I sat her back on the bed once she washed up. I soothed her back and she drank the water I got her. "You okay?" She took a deep breath and said, "Yes I'm okay now...that was weird"

I nodded but then realisation hit me. "Noor?" "Hm?" She looked at me. "Do you think..." Her eyebrows furrowed, "What?" I pointed to her stomach and her eyes widened. "No of course not"

I raised my brow at her. "You think?" She asked. I shrugged, "There have been times we didn't use protection and honestly condoms aren't a hundred percent effective"

She looked down in concern and touched her stomach. I could tell she was starting to panic and I assured her it will be alright. "No no it's not possible the math isn't right"

I tried to relax her. "Okay we'll take a test tomorrow okay?" She nodded and I tucked her into bed but I knew she was still worried.

I woke up at the sound of Noor puking in the bathroom. By the time I got up she was already washing up.

I leaned against the doorway and she turned to me once she splashed some cold water onto her face. "We need a test" She simply said and I nodded.

We waited for the timer to go off. "Why is it taking so long?" Noor let out a frustrated sigh. I tried to relax but I knew it wouldn't work.

The alarm from my phone finally went off and we picked up the third test of the week. We had to make sure to take a few just in case.

"Negative" I said and she sighed in relief. "Third one negative" I smiled, "Yeap that means we're good" She nodded.

"I probably ate something that made my stomach upset" She hugged me tightly and said, "That was close" I whispered, "Too close"

Noor and I decided to take a walk in our garden after dinner. "Must you?" She asked when she saw me light a cigarette. "I must" I replied as I wrapped my hand around her.

She rolled my eyes and we continued walking. "Can I tell you something?" She nodded. "I think it would've been cool if the tests were positive"

I hadn't talked about our little pregnancy scare ever since it happened about a week ago. I expected Noor to fight against it but her response surprised me, "Honestly I was secretly bummed"

I stopped and said, "Really?" She nodded. "Should we-" "Try?" She completed my sentence. "Yea why not?" I smiled at her and said, "Okay then" I pulled her into a kiss.

"Get a room you two" We turned to see Suhana who just came back from shooting. "Kebab mein Haddi" ["Playing Gooseberry" / "Third wheel"] I shouted at her as she walked into the house.
