Im flying aimlessly. My suit isn't on, which is weird, but neither is the sun, because the world around me is pitch black. It feels real enough, the wind in my face, the familiar sensation of your gut being left behind, the rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins. But where am I? I fly around. Nothing. No walls. No floor. Nothing.
Suddenly I feel my gut returning to its place, the wind dies, and I rapidly drop. I can see a white light down below me, so I angle my body towards that spot. In this place, I feel...invincible. Pummelling face first down into the dark abyss, towards the light, I'm not scared. I feel like I am meant to be in this place. The white dot seems to be only meters away now, so I flip my self over so I fall feet first. As if on cue, I slow down and start floating down. As I near the white dot, little gold fragments of light start spiralling down and around me, coming from an indistinguishable source. My feet touch down on the white, and it rapidly expands, replacing the black with a soft white light. The gold light, now in a pile around my feet, spirals up and around me, then slowly floats off in the distance. It stops, as if beckoning me, then turns back around and continues heading away from me. I am intrigued by this place, and I jump off the ground. Instead of hitting the ground again, I float. I will myself to move forward, as I would do with my suit, and I take off in pursuit of the golden light.
This world around me is strange. Strange golden lines etch themselves into what must be walls, shining as brightly as the world around me. I follow the golden light before it comes to a stop. I set down on the ground again, and I walk towards it.
It seems, alive. It pulsates like its alive, skin writhing with energy. I step closer to it, and its image changes. It looks something like a face. The light shifts, and extends out from the bottom, growing arms legs, the light buzzing like static as it takes on little details. It looks like....
Me.
Wow.. I let out a small gasp. The golden me follows. I take a step to the right, and again, it comes with me. I do a little dance, pumping my fist spin their air and shuffling my feet, turning in a small circle. As I come back around, I see the other me come around, pumping its fists, shuffling its feet, smiling its head off, and I laugh. A pure, crisp sound in this empty place. Im loving this too much.
I clap my hands, making sure the other me is paying attention. It claps in sync, so I begin my next dance.
"Righto darling, lets get this show on the road!"
I start by doing the robot, moving my arms in sharp sudden movements, seeing how well the other me keeps up. Its going along fine. I start moving my feet, shuffling and stamping on the ground, making a rhythm.
Thud. Scrape. Thud. Thud. Thud. Scrape. Thud. Scrape.
I pick up the pace, the tempo increasing, waving my hands around in random jerky movements, pumping my fist into the air.
"YEA HEAH HEAHHHHHH!" I shout. "WOOOOOOOOO!" " AHH YEAH!"
The thud of my shoes echoes, setting the whole place in a cascade of thuds and claps.
I turn around in a quick circle and look at me. Still doing fine.I keep dancing until I fall on my butt, creating a huge BANG to end my little song.
I look up to myself. "Yeah man" I tell myself. " We can seriously pull off some moves!"
I laugh to no one in particular. "C'mon man, high five!" We both reach in, and the moment our hands touch, its as if we are being pulled into each other. I watch as the other me becomes part of me, illuminating me gold. The second our bodies are one, I feel a jolt, like someone inserted jumper cables into my back and let too many volts through. It knocks me to my feet, and the wind out of my lungs. I lie there, gasping, trying to draw air back in. I can't. My throat feels like it's caving in on itself. I grab out at nothing with one hand, the other clutching my throat, trying to open up the airway to let air through.
It's not working. Black spots dance in my eyes. My head is swimming, and then my neck goes limp, and my whole body collapses. A figure walks in the distance, in a vert suit. A vert suit! I try to lift my hand, and let out a croak, to grab his attention, but to no avail. And just as the black dots obscure my vision completely, the figure turns around. His visor is up, and piercing gold eyes bore into mine, staying the darkness for only a moment. Just as i lose consciousness, the figure becomes clear.
Thats my suit.
And thats me in it._______________________
"Oh god." "My head!" A wince of pain escapes my lips, followed by a groan, followed by another "oh my god, my head!"
I open my eyes, and bright white lights over head of me, blind me, making my eyes water."Kit!" I hear a voice. Samantha. My technician. "Kit! Oh my god, are you ok?" I can hear her voice, but I cant see her.
"Sam?" I respond.
"Oh god Kit! Thank god your ok!" I feel arms envelop me, the smell of freshly washed hair, and the sweet smell of perfume enter my vicinity.
"Hey sam. I'm glad too." I reply.
I hear her laugh, a bright, bubbly sound which sets my heart racing.
I try to open my eyes, to see her perfect face. ( don't tell her I said that.)
With a slight effort though, my eyes do open. And as the world comes into focus, so does Sam's face. But instead of the smiling face I was expecting, it's a face of horror. Surprise, to put it nicely.
"Kit...your eyes." She whispers. "Oh god, it's happened."
"Sam? I ask. " Is everything all right?"
"Kit." Her eyes filling with tears. "It's happened. Oh god, its happened!"
"Sam." " Whats wrong."
"Its happened Kit." She says, trying to keep their tears away.
