Funto Coker
I pride myself as someone with a very high level of self control, only very few things have the privilege to get under my skin so easily and one of them includes getting stucked in the middle of a deserted road simply because my car choose the wrongest time to start acting up.
'Damn! What the hell is wrong now?'
I'm standing in front of the open bonnet, looking cluelessly at the clusters of engines and cables in it, wondering what miracle I have to perform to get the car moving again. After another five minute of standing around like a moron, trying to dial different numbers unsuccessfully because there is no network ( crowning my misery), I angrily kicked the tire of my car, cursing under my breath and wondering why I have to be unfortunate today of all days.
First I made the grave mistake of giving my driver who is a pro at this things the day off (it is wedding anniversary and he wanted to surprise his wife), then I drove all the way to a remote area to check out the new land the company just purchased for arable farming.... My car didn't develop any fault much earlier until it was time to return back for the meeting I have with the major shareholders in less than fifteen minute from now.
'This is so messed up'
I muse, running my hand through my hair in irritation, the hot afternoon sun is not helping matter in the least so I had to pull off my blazers and throw it in the back seat.No miracle will help me get back to work on time for the board meeting with the way things are going and that infuriates me even more, another thing I hate the most is tardiness, I have been groomed by my father from a very young age that punctuality is the soul of every business and that has helped me rise to the peak of success that is now attached to my name of the car.
I was still busy typing furiously on my phone and trying to see if I could manage to get an Uber so I didn't notice the young lady in a grey office skirt and white shirt who walked past with a questioning look, she had gone a distance but stops, turn around and made her way to me.
'Excuse me, is something wrong with your car?'
Her voice brought me back to reality and I look away from my phone to her.**********
'Excuse me, is something wrong with your car?'
I should have just walked away, I shouldn't have concerned myself with the stranger who looks stranded and visibly upset by his circumstance but I was in a very good and infectious mood after knowing Khaira's school fees is now taken care off so I made a u turn and came around to inquire what the problem might be and see how I can be of help to him.
He looks up from his phone and down at me with a slightly confused look, he's a lot taller than me that I have to look all the way up while he had to look all the way down at me..... So funny
'I'm asking if their is something wrong with your car'
I repeat my question in a clearer tone as my eyes roams over the white Mercedeez benz 2021 model before me.... The car is very sleek and most importantly expensive, it the latest model which means he must be one hell of a "castle".... if the car actually belongs to him.'Oh yes! My car broke down and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it'
His posh distressed British accent sounded really comical and almost made me laugh, but i knew better than making fun of someone is a tight situation and nod my head instead in understanding
'...... I can't get connection to make important calls and I need to get out of this God damned place as soon as possible'
He's obviously pissed by his predicament as any sane person should be, getting stranded without a network connection is one of the worse things than can ever happen to anyone.
