I stopped typing and took a quick glance at my wrist watch to check what the time says.
6:30pm
'Shit!'
I was so engrossed with my work that I didn't realize how fast time had gone, mum organized a family dinner for 7pm tonight and made it known that I wasn't allowed to miss for any reason.... I won't be surprised if she comes chasing after my pathetic ass should I even entertain the thought of bouncing out on our "family time".By calculation i have roughly thirty minutes left to make it home and avoid her scolding so I reluctantly got to my feet, closed the document I was working on and switch off my laptop, I began to put on my blazers as Sam choose the exact time to peep into my office like a child.
'Don't you have a family dinner to get to?'
He ask rhetotically, I sigh in defeat.
'Unfortunately.... Mind tagging alone?'
I ask hopefully, praying he would agree even though I could already bet what is answer would be as always.'Nah.... I have to be home with jessy and it getting really late, Sorry bro!'
He apologize.
Yeah Jessy, that's his seven year old daughter.
Sam is a single parent, not because his partner died but because she choose to leave him and their little kid from the very beginning, she wanted to be with a man who is wealthy enough to take care of all her vain needs and ever since he has channelled his energy into taking care of his daughter.... She became his source of motivation to succeed and prove her wrong.'Yeah off course....I forgot you're a man with lots of responsibilities'
I reply drily making him chuckle.
Once I was done dressing, I picked up my iphone, tab, wallet and other personal belonging, dumping them into my designer leather office bag mum go for me on my last birthday..... She knows I appreciate stuffs like that..'Good luck with the family...'
He started walking away but stopped abruptly
'.... Oh I almost forgot'
I look up at him, the pitiful look on his face told me he was about to say something I won't like.'What is it this time around?'
I groan... I know he loves to annoy me at every given opportunity and I sort of like it even though I won't openly admit it..... Sam has always been that elder brother i never had, he was the son of our head housekeeper, unfortunately his mum died of cancer in his first year of senior school, mum then took it upon herself to cater for him, convinced dad to sponsor his education since he didn't have any close relative who is willing to take up the responsibility, we became quite close when he began staying with us and he's one of the very few people who know me for who I really am, he doesn't think of me as insufferable and pompous like most people who are under the misconception that I have to be that way since I come from a wealthy family.'Samantha stopped by today, she came looking for you, fully prepared for war.... You know exactly what I mean right?'
Off course I do.'Oh God!'
My crazy little junior sister.... The girl is one of my biggest headaches and I don't even know what to do with her, she is surely going to make dinner very miserable for me, hopefully mum would help me through so I can get out alive and in one piece.
'She said you blocked all of her bank accounts, why would you do that?'
I understand my move is just like parading in front of a wounded hungry lion.... Very disastrous but I had to do it regardless of the consequences.
