One Year Sobriety

This morning, Liv woke up like any other morning. It wasn't until she looked at the date that she remembered that today is her one year sobriety mark. While she felt gratitude and sense of accomplishment as she should be, she couldn't help but feel a wave of fear and deja vu. She has celebrated her one year sobriety before and she had relapsed not long afterwards. Now that she reached one year again, she was terrified that it may happen again. Her biggest fear was disappointing those she loved again and feeling not worthy of the love she wanted. She honestly had a mix of emotions and and wasn't sure how to exactly feel; she was dwelling so much in her own fears that she wasn't fully acknowledging the pros and how far she had come in the last year, let alone where she was when she had got out of rehab the first time a couple years ago.

After she had brushed her teeth, washed her face, etc., she came downstairs, expecting a not so full house from Layla working early and patience having classes and coop having her new job at the old folks home, she saw all of her favorite breakfast foods on display along with her favorite person in the whole world, who had bought all of the food for her.

"Aw Spence, you didn't have to do all of this," Liv said as she sat down beside Spencer and started to eat with a sweet and satisfied smile.

"Of course I did, you deserve it and especially today, all I wanna do is celebrate you today as I know that today is your one year and I couldn't be any prouder of you," Spencer said before giving her a kiss.

Liv always thought that she couldn't fall any more in love with Spencer, but he never ceased to amaze her and she loved him for that. She was so grateful for him as he was the one that had always been there for her every single step of the way, even when they first met and while she may have tried to hate him for it at the time or thought he felt any differently about her, she was glad that he did what he did as far as telling her family that she had been drinking and was in trouble in order for her to get the help that she needed. He noticed her when nobody else did and she couldn't be more thankful.

"This truly means the world to me, Spencer. Thank you," Liv said with a soft smile. "And you already know I love me some food," Liv added as they laughed and begun eating.

Spencer could still feel that there was something on her mind that she wasn't saying and as usual, he wasn't wrong.

"Alright, what is it ?" Spencer asked. "There's something you're not saying," Spencer added.

Liv playfully rolled her eyes because of how much he knew her and knew that something wasn't fully right and as much as she tried to or wanted to hide it, she also knew that she couldn't.

"If I'm being completely honest, I'm having some mixed feelings about today as far as hitting my one year goes. While I am proud of myself, I'm also terrified cause I hit one year before and I relapsed again and I just don't want that to happen again and what if it does ? It's like a version of bad luck or deja vu or something, if that makes sense," Liv answered truthfully.

"Liv, you should really give yourself more credit. Where you were a year ago and where you are now is something worth celebrating and being proud of and that's bigger than the fear you're feeling. You're so much more stronger than you think," Spencer said.

"I know and trust me, I am, I just can't shake this feeling and because of that, I don't want to make today too much of a big deal and put too much into celebrating, knowing that it may happen again and I especially don't wanna let anyone down again," Liv said.

"This breakfast is fantastic, by the way ! You even got my favorite crepes ! Thank you so much again," Liv said as she wanted to change the subject and continued to eat. While her changing the subject worked for now and he finished the breakfast with her, Spencer knew that he had to do something for her.
