Meredith walked back into the diner with a huge smile on her face. While she thought of the guy she just met. He was amazing. Athletic. Although she didn't know that for a fact for all she knew he could suck. But he was so hot she could look past that. Not only was he hot he was clumsy but in a cute way not an annoying way. And his hair was so curly she just wanted to run her fingers through it but she couldn't. She wasn't ready for a relationship not yet anyway and even if she was he probably wasn't into her that way.
As she sat down Susan her step mom was smirking at her and said "what was that all about?"
"Oh that's nothing, don't worry about it." She responded it really was nothing she didn't even know why she went out there she just held him back from going wherever he was going.
"Oh okay." Susan replied although she knew that her stepdaughter had a crush in this new town.
" um Susan, Dad, would it be okay if I went to a baseball game tonight in the school yard?"
Susan looked at Thacher and he looked at Meredith and replied " um yeah I don't see why not this town looks safe and it's definitely not like Seattle just be home by.. when does it start?""Oh Um I'm not sure I forgot to ask so I can find out." Meredith couldn't believe she was so caught up in his eyes she forgot to ask for time.
"Ok just let us know when, it should be over by 10 so as long as we know it should be fine" Susan replied. Susan thought just because she married Thatcher that she was her mother. Her and her mother were close since it was just them her father left them for susan because Ellis 'spent too much time at the hospital'. Then after her father married Susan, Ellis started to spend more time at home with Meredith. But this was her family now. But she still missed her mom.
When they got home she was unpacking her room. She hung up pictures to remind her of her life back in Seattle, her best friend Sadie and her bunny she had since she was.. since she could remember. Now that she was done unpacking she ran downstairs. She walked into the kitchen where Thatcher and Susan were. "Hey Susan, Dad is it okay if I explore the town you know to get a feel of where everything is to meet some people?" Meredith asked excitedly.
"Yeah that should be fine, just be safe." Thatcher said.
"Can I go?!" Lexie, her 7 year old half-sister said.
Susan looked at her "it's up to you honey."
"Um.. yeah sure. Why not." Meredith thought, she had planned on finding Derek but now she guessed she was babysitting but it was fine because Lexie was smart so she was mature for her age which meant she wasn't annoying.
"Yay!" Lexie squealed as she ran to the foyer to put on her shoes.
"Alright lex let's go" Meredith said as she held out her hand for her sister to grab.
Meredith and Lexie were walking down the street that was aligned with shops and people. They were walking and Lexie saw a candy store and let go of Meredith's hand and started to run to the shop. And Meredith ran after her and all of the sudden she stopped.
Derek was walking to his fathers shop to help him before his game when he saw a little girl running alone towards the candy store beside his dad's shop. She looked about Amelia's age and he knew his mother would be furious if she ran away from her so he stuck his arm out to stop the little girl and when he caught him he bent down and said "hey where are you going? Are you lost? Where is your mommy?"
The little girl opened her mouth to talk but was interrupted by someone yelling "Alexandra Caroline Grey you know you are not supposed to run away.. oh hey" she said as she noticed the boy from earlier "thank you" Meredith said as she took her sister's hand.
"No problem" Derek said as he got up.
"Meri, I just wanted to get some candy.." Lexi looked up at the boy in front of her and said "wait your the boy who split coffee on his pants!" Lexie said with a snicker.
Derek's face was now red "Lexie! I'm so sorry Derek she has photographic memory so she remembers everything. It's never really annoying. She usually knows when to shut up!" She gritted the last part through her teeth to hint to her little sis to be quiet.
"It's fine I have lots of sisters, I know how annoying they can be."
"Yeah she's usually not this bad but I guess she really wanted candy. Umm where are you heading?" Meredith asked curiously.
"Right here actually" he said as he pointed to the hardware store they were in front of. "My dad owns it and I promised I would come in before the game!"
"Oh really that really kind of you. Speaking of the game, what time does it start? I didn't catch the time this morning?" Meredith asked as she told her father she would find out.
"Oh yeah right sorry it starts at 6:00 I can pick you up if you'd like but I have to get there a little early." Derek asked as he really wanted to spend more time with this beautiful woman who actually seemed interested in him.
"Yeah sure uh I live on 472 toast road um just down the street and to the right it's the house with th-" she didn't get to finish before he finished her Sentence.
"With the bay window on the side, yeah.." he said but quickly countered with " I'm not a stalker it's just I know who used to live there and he recently moved to a nursing home and that is the only house for sale in stars hollow."
"Yeah uh huh." Meredith teased as she giggled.
"I'm really not" he said as he laughed a little too her giggle was so infectious.
"Yeah ok so when you pick me up on your little tricycle you won't steal locks of my hair and hide them in a box labeled "Meredith Grey my true love" ?!"
"Haha, very funny" He countered.
"Meri, come on, stop talking to your boyfriend" Lexi groaned.
"He's not.. we're not.. Lexie hold on," she said as she looked at Her sister then to Derek and back at her sister "I guess I have to go see you later..um sorry about her bye Derek."
" it's fine I get it" he said with a smirk he liked the idea of Meredith being his girlfriend. Derek watched Meredith or Meri as Lexie said. He laughed to himself as he walked into his dad's store thinking that she was lucky because his sisters nicknamed him Der-bear which wasn't bad when he was little but when they called him that In public it was embarrassing..
"Who was that son?" His father asked as he stood behind the counter organizing screw bits. Which pulled him out of his thinking.
"Oh that was meredith shes new in town just moved into grandpas house" Derek as he moved to stand beside his dad.
"I know that look, that's the look I had when I first saw your mother" his dad said with a knowing look in his eyes.
"Dad stop it's not like that, we're... friends, yeah I think we can be classified as friends" Derek said nervously.
"Whatever you say son" Christopher said as he patted his son on the shoulder moving back into the break room leaving Derek to finish sorting the screw bits absent mindedly thinking about how things were starting to look up for him. Even if they were just semi-friends.. more acquaintances.. anyway he knew that this girl would make his world be turned upside down. In a good way that is.. hopefully.
