"Bye, Nana! Have fun! Yes, yes we'll call if we need anything, love you!"
We close and lock the door, as promised and take a minute to let it fully sink in.
"So, we have an entire hotel room, all to ourselves." I say looking to Kate with a sly smile.
"Yes!" she squeals.
It may not seem all that exciting, being in a hotel room by yourself, but for me and K, especially because we were in California, it was the best thing to have ever happened to us. Granted our aunt and uncle were just down the hall, but they weren't going to be constantly checking on us. They have two small children of their own, and will probably be asleep before we get any sort of crazy.
Earlier in the day, we all went to Walmart and got snacks for the rooms. There's popcorn, Pringles, candy, cookies, and a ton more. I turn the TV on and flip it to Disney Channel, our favorite shows are always on around this time. As expected, Dog With A Blog is on deck after and episode of Jessie finishes. I lay on my bed and pull out my phone, seeing K has done the same thing.
I put an airpod in and turn Spotify on. I know it may seem like a lot, the TV, K's TikTok, and my music, but its somehow calming for my brain. A text comes in from Dylan, weird that he's not using snap.
hey, hows cali?
good, were alone in our hotel room while our nana is at the rehearsal dinner
thats fun what are y'all doing
nothing its more boring than i thought it would be
I put the phone down and look over a Katelyn. She's smiling at her phone in that, "Its a boy and I'm trying not to smile so that no one around me knows its a boy", way that I'm all too familiar with.
"So..." I say dragging out the 'o' for a really long time, "Is that Mathew" I say Mathew's name in a very annoying sing-song voice that gets her to give me her, I-hate-you-but-not-really, look.
"Maybe," she says, "Is that Dylan?" she says pointing to my phone that's lighting up with messages.
"Touché," I say.
"Do you mind if I call him?" she asks as I'm walking back to my bed.
"Do I look like your mother? No I don't care. Just don't be stupid and, well I guess that's it. Don't be stupid." I reply.
"I dunno, that sounded pretty motherly to me..." she says and I throw a pillow in her direction.
"Go call your boyfriend." I tell her.
"Not my boyfriend!" she says as she leaves to the adjoining room.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." I mutter to myself. I finally sit down and see five messages, one of which is from 'dill pickle'.
ugh that sucks
yeah and shes on the phone with her boyfriend-who's-not-actually-a-boyfriend so im really bored now
wanna ft?
um sure, lemme just check in with my nana real quick give me like five minutes
okay, your timer starts now
I smile to myself at that last text. We have a timer inside joke. Y'know how sometimes people say "Give me 2.5 seconds."? Well there was this one time... Anyways you get the point.
I quickly call Nana so she can check that we're both alive and haven't burnt the hotel down. We of course don't mention the boys in the picture when asked what we're up to. I hang up with her just in time, because not even twenty seconds later, my timer is up, and a FaceTime call engulfs my screen.
