Chapter 1. Perky Blonde News Reporter
-Emily's POV-
"Emily, Brianna phoned. She asked if we could watch Jayce tonight at 6, you up for it?" My best friend Ava says to me.
"Is it safe being out? With the curfew and the warnings?" I question.
"Yeah, yeah. That's all a hoax. Do you really think after someone dies, they could come back and eat you?! You are truly a funny girl." Ava teases me.
"What if it's true though," I wonder out loud.
"We could die Ava. I'm not even kidding right now. It's honestly way better to be safe than sorry." I tell her with all seriousness in my voice.
"Oh come on-" she starts but the TV buzzes to the daily 4:00pm warning, interrupting her.
"About 5 days ago the Canadian government released information regarding the safety of the public." The unusually perky blonde news reporter starts.
"Prime minister Bob Finchmen told us earlier today that the disease known as 5KT12 has been spreading through the test chimps faster each day. The disease is shockingly passed through broken skin. Having a cut on your finger then being contacted on that spot by one of the infected is how 5KT12 is transmitted, which means everyone is at risk. We are not calling a lockdown unless its absolutely necessary, but the current curfew of having to be indoors by 10:30 still stands. Please do not panic, stay comfortable and do not worry. Everything is under control." For a bright cheerful lady she always delivers the worst news.
We sit in silence for about 10 seconds just soaking in what the news reporter said before I decide to break the silence.
"See Ava? Seems pretty real to me." I cross my arms across my chest.
"Whatever, you're sure it's real so I'll just go with it. Then maybe you'll shush and I can watch the The Big Bang Theory in peace." Ava seemed worried for a second, but it quickly disappears as she laughs at the character Sheldon's funny remark.
I text Brianna for Ava telling her we can watch Jayce tonight. I really wanted to say we're busy but, I've been saving up for this new pair of shoes I saw at the mall last weekend. And the 30$ will definitely help me get them soon.
I join Ava in watching the quite comical TV show. Time seems to have flown by as the show's credits start rolling in front of us. We both get up from where we were sitting on the floor and stretch.
We have an hour before we have to be at Brianna's house so I go to the bathroom to brush my hair and touch up the makeup I'm wearing. Ava does almost the same thing, and we decide to leave a bit early.
We leave the house and start walking down the sidewalk.
"I can't believe school starts in a couple days." I say, not in a happily but not in an angry tone either.
"I don't know whether to be happy or sad about it. It's fun to be on summer break but high school isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem, you know what I mean?" Ava explains.
"Yeah, that's so true."
We talk about the upcoming first day of school all the way to Brianna's house a couple blocks away.
"Hi girls." Brianna welcomes us as we walk in the front door.
"I'm glad you guys are here early, my ride actually just said they're almost here so prefect timing huh?" She smiles as she grabs her pink purse, heading for the door.
I glance out the window and see a car pull up.
"I think your ride's here." I tell Brianna, she peeks out the door.
